Question:
As-salamualaikum,
I pray this finds you well. I had a sensitive question regarding a women’s menstrual cycle. A few times a year (not regularly), my cycle will often be accompanied by moodswings and at moments I become very irritated and impatient. I understand that it is connected to the hormonal change but what is the higher purpose of it? What test or lesson are we being taught? I feel like a bit like a child and I don’t know if I need to be admonished or comforted. It becomes very hard to control sometimes and I wonder what is the best way to go through this time. Is there an Islamic precedent for how women (and their surroundings) should be at this time so as to give us more ease that I may not be following?
Jazak Alah Khair.
Answer:
Wa `alaykum salam,
Everyone must be content with what Allah (swt) created them as male of female. Men go through certain moods and women too. So, don’t forget in these days that you don’t pray Allah(swt) a gave holiday that He didn’t give males. It is as if you worshipped in these days, as if you worshipped the best prayers because angels have prayed on your behalf perfect worship. Be happy as men don’t have such a thing.
