Assalamualaikum
When seeking forgiveness from Allah swt, I usually make dua in English or Malay and I list the sins that I am aware of. For example “Ya Allah, please forgive me for etc etc”. Is it necessary to specify each sin when making dua?
Is it better to make dhikr of astaghfirullah instead of making dua since my dua is not in Arabic?

It is not necessary to mention the sin when making istighfar but it might help to induce sincere regret and condition.
You can use Malay in du`a and astaghfirullah as a wird (devotion) of 100x daily.
