General question about sufism

Question:

salams sidna but I have doubts when I see people treating their sheikh as the be all end all person. A layman recommended me to think of your sheikh during Salah. I understand tadhim but it feels too much. Please make dua for me sayyidna.

Answer:

Waalaykumussalam,
“The be-all and end-all of the whole matter is taqwā (Godfearing), which includes covenant-keeping and other than that of the fulfillment of obligations and abstention from prohibitions” (Baydawi on Surat Al `Imran 3:76).
Make your Shaykh your Imam so as to keep proper awe and adab with Allah and in Salawat, dhikr, du`a etc. and watch from whom you take advice because not everyone is equally authorized to give it.
Hajj Gibril Haddad
