Muhyiddin ibn `Arabi’s madhhab?

Question:

Assalamoalaikum dear sheikh,
I hope you’re well.
Recently  a person has caused fitna and claimed  that Muhyid Din ibn Arabi was against taqlid and the four madhabs.
Is that true?

Also do you know where I can get a pdf of a book by sheikh Abdul Ghani al Nablusi,  clarifying  the controversial parts of the Futuhat al-Makkiyya?

JazakAllah khair sheikh.

Answer:

Waalaykumussalam warahmatullah,

Shaykh Muhyiddin Ibn `Arabi was neither against taqlid nor against the four madhhabs. He was not, however, a follower of any madhhab as he considered himself a mujtahid and, furthermore, relatedly said that if he were to follow any madhhab he would be closest to the Zahiri (literalist) madhhab.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim forbade people from reading the Futuhat unless they have an explicit permission.
