Do we believe in soul-mates: a man and woman created to marry exclusively which is predetermined? I saw your dua “katabta lee fee umm ul-kitab…” and I thought we had free choice to choose a spouse? How does the permissibility of polygamy reconcile this?
Answer:
Belief in Qada‘ and Qadar is among the pillars of faith, and the particulars are kept in the Preserved Tablet. This never cancels out free choice, liability and accountability as is well-known in Islam. As for the concept of unique and exclusive soul-mates it is a non-Islamic construct.
