The Deluge and Prophet Noah (‘alayhis salam)

Question:

As-salamu ‘alaykum.

When did Noah (‘alayhis salam) live? When did the Great Flood occur? How does such Qur’anic account relate to the ancient Mesopotamian cuneiform clay tablets (carbon-dated to approx. 2900-3000 BC) of Ziusudra, Atrahasis, and Gilgamesh?

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

Al-Najjar in Qisas al-Anbiya’ (p. 30) states that there were 1,056 years between Adam’s creation and the birth of Nuh, upon them peace. The time  of the flood is given as 601 years after his birth (p. 47) and he lived a span of 950 years. These numbers are from Israelite sources except for the latter, which is from the Qur’an. As for the last question I do not know.
