Unveilings

Question:

Assalamualaikum Shaykh,

I’m having a little problem reconciling an ayat of Quran and a Hadith Shareef to our Ahle Sunnah creed of Imam at Tahawi regarding karamat of Awliya and their unveilings.

The Ayat of Quran:
He discloses not His unseen (ghayb) to anyone, except only to such a Messenger as He is well-pleased with. (72:26)

Are the awliya included in this verse?

Hadith: Nothing remains of prophecy except the glad tidings (mubashshirat). They asked him: What are they? He said: The good vision or dream. (riyad al saliha)

Does this hadith mean that any other form of unveiling including the spiritual powers of the Awliya are questionable?

I appreciate the help Syedi! Assalamualaikum.

Answer:

Alaykum salam,

No to both. Awliya follow in the wake of the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) so they are not directly meant in the verse. As for the hadith it is not an either/or scenario contrary to the way the question is put.
