A Child’s Pilgrimage

Question:

What is ruling of taking children on pilgrimage? Is it considered hajj for them or not?

Answer:

The child that has not yet attained the age of discernment (maturation) is not obligated to perform the hajj. However the child that performs it will be rewarded for it as a voluntary act of worship. So a child that performed the pilgrimage many times will receive the reward, but will not be considered to have fulfilled it as an obligation, for the Prophet (s) said, “any child, despite having made hajj ten times, must still perform his pilgrimage of Islamic obligation upon reaching maturity.”
