A Promise to marry

Question:

Assalam u alayekum Syyedi Shiekh Hisham Hisham
I am 29 years old. I love a girl. She lives in Jordan. I want to marry her because I promise her. I live in Pakistan. I don’t have a job. I live with my family, my elder bros n sis are also not married yet. I promise her to marry her. I know her from 3 years. My problem is I can’t say to my family I wanna marry her I feel it looks selfish when my elder bro n sis are not married and I say for myself. I’m Scared from Allah What I do. Guide me Shiekh wat is better for me. Pray for me and give my salam to Shaykh Nazim may Allah give him long life and health ameen

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem,

There are many difficulties in this situation so you must be realistic with her and yourself.  If your parents are supporting you, you must ask if they agree to support her and yourself in their house.  The girl must also know what situation you are bringing her to– living with your parents and siblings, and financially dependent on your parents.   If everyone does not agree there is no point in holding on to your promise to her since it will not work out.  Ask Allah to give you and her guidance and show you the best way. Wa’Allahu a`lam.
