As Salam alaikum,
The father of my 19 month old son divorced me when I was 6 weeks pregnant. He just started seeing his son recently and told us that he has cancer. He said he will go back to Egypt possibly if this next operation does not cure the cancer. My question is, if his father passes away from cancer and I pass away before he is old enough to take of himself, what can I do to make sure he doesn’t go to the foster system here in the USA? How can I make sure he will be raised Muslim as this is the most important thing to me. I am the only Muslim in my family. If my son goes to my mother she will raise him as Muslim. Jazak Allah Khairn for your time.

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem
The custody of Muslim children is not determined on gender but rather on capability and suitability of the parent or in case of your hypothetical question grandparents.
