Virgin Marrying non-Virgin

Question:

Salamu alaikum,
Maulana Shaykh Hisham I thank you for reading and answering my questions. I love you very much.

My question is that I have a marriage proposal from someone who told me he is not a virgin but he was never married. I feel upset by it but I don’t know if I should be upset or hurt. Please give me your advise on this matter. Myself I am a virgin.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,
Ideally a Muslim and a Muslimah are to maintain their virginity before marriage. He is to make tawbah (repentance) and ask Allah for forgiveness. He seems to be honest and you should appreciate that. If he disclosed that he is not virgin to boast then it is a completely different matter.
