Authenticity of A Hadith

Question:

786

Salam,

I’ve found a hadith as follows:

“A true believer is one with whom others feel secure. One who returns love for hatred”

However, I cannot find the isnad of the hadith and its authenticity. Is this a valid hadith? If it is so, who is the narrator of the hadith and from which book of hadith I can find it?

Thank you very much in advance for the answer.

wassalam

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

The first clause is part of an authentic hadith narrated in various wordings by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad, Abu Ya`la in his Musnad, al-Tabarani and others.

The second clause is in the Qur’an:

{Nor can Goodness and Evil be equal. Repel (Evil) with what is better: then will he between whom and thee was hatred become as it were thy friend and intimate!} Surat al-Fussilat 41:34

Hajj Gibril Haddad
