Hajj footwear-Shafi’ madh-hab

Question:

as-salaam alaykum

Can you please explain the Shafi madhhab viewpoint on permissible footwear while on Hajj/in ihram. Is there a restriction on stitched sandals? What part of the foot is allowed to be covered? Thanks very much.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem,

In the Shafi`i school, the footwear during ihram must not cover the toes and heels. You can use sandals or flip flops that fits this requirement. There is no restriction in using stitched sandal.

Allah knows best.
