How to pray from the heart?

Question:

Asalaam alaikum may Allah Paak bless us all with His Karam and bounty. My dear devoted respected elders the reason why I trouble you is because I would like to be guided in how to pray so that it is from the heart. I do humbly try to pray but I don’t feel it is from the heart. This upsets me very much. I really do not know what to do. I have asked numerous people but nobody replies or responds.I have read about Sheikh Nazim and am deeply touched and inspired by them. Is there anyway one can meet them or request them to pray for me. Kind regards. Please reply back.

Thank you.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

You are right in saying that we don’t pray correctly. Prayer is in actually, human beings profession for Allah said, “I did not create human beings or jinn except to worship Me” (Surat adh-Dhariyat, 51:56) and like any true profession, prayer cannot be learned except by being trained by someone who knows how to truly pray. and further evidence form the Sunnah is the hadith of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) “pray as you see me pray.” How can we see the Prophet (s) praying? One must take the guidance of a wali (saint) whose heart is connected to the Divine Presence, who, when he prays is actually with Allah and is present the Prophet (s) in his prayers.

One such person is Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani and if you ever see him pray you will understand. To accompany him and pray with him, will mean you are apprenticing to one who truly prays in the Divine Presence. He is represented around the world by his Caliph, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and you may learn sincerity and prayer from him.
