Assalamualaikum wr wb Ya Sayyidi
and teams.

Please forgive me. Just really want to know if we can pray 2 rakaats of Sunnah Wudu prayers as well as Masjid prayers while waiting for the adzaan for Margrib?
Thank you.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

That short period is a disliked time for Sunnah prayers if they are due to:

1) a later reason (Sabab Muta’akhkhir e.g. you pray Sunnah because you are leaving a house, or because you will put on Ihram, or you are about to embark on a journey, or you have a need to be fulfilled), or

2) if there is no reason at all (e.g. Sunnah Mutlaq, a general Sunnah prayer not connected to any reason).

Some scholars say to pray during such period is Makruh, some say Haram, but generally prayer is not allowed during such restricted times (only Masjid al-Haram has no restrictions at all).

But Sunnah Wudu and Sunnah Tahiyyat al-Masjid are exceptions due to a prior purpose (Sabab Mutaqaddim e.g. you made Wudu so there is Sunnah to pray, you entered a Masjid so there is Sunnah to pray, there is an eclipse so there is Sunnah to pray, or praying over a Janazah who is present.) So you may pray them even in disliked times.
