Questions about fasting

Question:

Assalam Wr Wb,
InshaAllah you are well Shaykh. I have a few questions:

1. My mother is a diabetic and heart patient who is in her 60s, she has always fasted and this year she has had a lot of pain in her body from various illnesses as noted. Please advise if she is able to fast, and if not what she needs to do.

2. My wife Alhamdullilah is pregnant, she is unsure whether to fast or not, whether the fast for 18 hours in the UK will harm the baby.

Please advise as soon as you are able to on both the questions.WaSalaam

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,
Let them both not fast this Ramadan and for each day of Ramadan let them feed one poor person whatever they themselves normally see fit to eat in 24 hrs. Your mother does not have to make it up if she does not get significantly better. Your wife can do qada’ after delivery at her convenience.

Allah Most High accepts the tears and good intentions of hearts that long to obey Him, and He loves for His dispensations to be used just as seriously as His prescriptions.
