Advice

Question:

Salaam
I am confused as to what I should do with my life. recently I have been feeling very alone and I’m constantly crying to Allah to forgive me and sOlve my problems. I want to be happy in my life and complete my deen and be a good Muslim. I’m not a murid of any shaykh yet. I also don’t want to be alone forever or bring my son up on my own. Please help

Answer:

wa`alaykum salam,

Insha-Allah Shaykh Hisham Kabbani is praying for you.

You have answered your own question when you said “I am not the murid of any shaykh,  yet.” That means your heart is telling you it is time to take the hand of a guiding murshid. May Allah grant you that blessing, for having a true inheritor of the Prophet (s) to guide you relieves loneliness, removes burdens, and gives you guidance to your true station in the Divine Presence.

What do we mean by Tazkiyah an-Nafs?

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rehmatullah!

I am from pakistan and with great respect, i want to know about tazkiyah annafs.
How we can attain that quality?
Can we reach to it by doing dhikr (rememberance of the Allah Almighty) along with five times obligatory prayers?

please guide me in this regard.

JazakALLAH Khair!

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam wa rahmatullah,

Tazkiyyat an-nafs means purification of the lower self. By means of tazkiyya, one moves from the state Muslim, observing the five pillars, to the state of iman, faith, and then with further polishing to the state of Ihsan, which as the Prophet (s) informed Archangel Jibril (as) when he questioned him on the three levels of religion, he said “Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him and if you do not see Him, know that He in fact sees you”.

While Dhikr is one of the remedies to the evils of the lower self, it is only part of the pharmacy available to a spiritual doctor to cure you. But in order to be cured, one must first see the doctor.

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani wrote, in Classical Islam and the Naqshbandi Sufi Tradition:

Allah said in the Holy Qur’an, “Fear God and accompany Trustworthy people” (at-Tawba, 9:119)

Allah’s Word is for all time, for every era and for every century. It is an ongoing order, from which we understand the importance of keeping company with the Trustworthy. Allah orders all human beings to accompany them, because by keeping their company one will see how they live their lives, how they deal with people, how they address their companions, how they eat, how they sleep, how they worship. By accompanying them, one will learn all their good manners, and their ways of life.

Another way too understand this verse, is that one should accompany a trustworthy person, because to be trustworthy is very rare and not many people achieve it. Everyone, however, can find a trustworthy person and accompany him, in order to be guided. Following a Trustworthy One is essential to our spiritual path. Such a one is needed to lead us and guide us and to be a beacon for us on that way. In the Naqshbandi Order, the living presence of a connected shaykh is essential. Through his physical and spiritual linkage to the Prophet (s) he establishes the murid‘s connection. The murid‘s obligation is to maintain his connection to his shaykh, to hold tightly to the hand of the one within his reach. The shaikh maintains the further connection to the previous shaikhs and to the Prophet (s).

From what has been said above, and in the biographies of the Masters, the importance of accompanying a True Master has been clearly demonstrated. It provides the seeker with the opportunity to learn the essentials of ethics and good conduct, to discover the hidden defects of his heart, and to be lifted to the states of perfection. There are two requisites for entering upon such an endeavor: when the seeker feels the need to seek in this way he must purify his intention and ask his Lord to connect him to a Truthful One; and he must look in his own country for someone who will point him in the direction of the Perfect Master.

Prayer Request: Marriage Breakdown

Request:

Asalama-u-alaikum,
My prayer request is for my brother’s marriage. We live in Europe and my parents got my brother married last year back home. He was not fully on board with the idea but went ahead with the marriage and was very happy for a short while. He is now waiting for his wife to get her visa and join him but he is saying he does want to be with her anymore. He only lived with her for a short while and is insisting he knows her well enough through thier conversations on the phone to know they do not have a connection or understanding. He is putting my parents thorugh so much grief. I have tried speaking to him but he refuses to listen or understand and insteads shouts, swears and threatens us. Please could Shiekh Hisham do dua for us and give us something to read. Jzk.

Prayer Request: Liberating my dad

Request:

Bismillahi Rahman el Raheem,
Salamu aleykom,

This is a request for prayer for my father who is still waiting in prison. It’s been almost a year now. We have all the documents proving his innocence.

His health is deteriorating, he turned 60 in the cell, and we are still waiting for the judge to give her sentence.
My mother is alone in Algeria spending every week just for the 15 minutes she gets to see him for and give him food. Her heart too is starting to weaken.

We are all exhausted and heart broken of this situation that keeps on stretching every time. We tell ourselves we just need to be patient but it’s getting very hard.

Please, please, please, in this holy month of Ramadan, a prayer for his liberation and for his return to us.

May Allah bless you and keep our Prophet’s (SAW) gaze over us.

Response:

wa `alaykum salam,

Insha-Allah, with Mawlana’s prayers and the prayers of all Awliya.

Prayer Request: Pray for my Cousin to get married

Request:

My cousin is 27 years old and her sister is 25years old. They are both hoping and wishing to get married. Could you please pray that Allah brings suitable men forward and gets them married as soon as possible as marriage would do them good because they are both in need of settling down and support. Their mother passed away about 8years ago and since then their father has gone downhill and is under very strong black magic influence. he sees his daughters as his enemies and does not provide proper support to them so could you please pray they get married soon to practicing muslims to bring some stability into their lives. Also could you please pray that Allah guides [private] and makes her a more practicing muslim as i feel she is surrounded with the wrong company.
Many thanks
