Job in Investment Banking

Question:

I have been thinking of leaving [Investment Bank] because of interest. even though I don’t deal with interest but I read some scholars say that even working as a janitor at a bank is haraam.  Recently I have been trying to get a job in [private] and I got a job offer from [private] in [private] but that also means i have to take almost 50% pay cut from what I’m earning right now. I could keep searching and see if I find something in banking that pays just as good but that would be wrong if it is haraam – I guess it would be an easy decision to accept job offer from [private] despite  the pay cut if invest banking job is really haraam. Maybe you can check with Sheikh Hishaam or other scholars and advise?

Thanks again for all your help. May Allah keep us all guided on the right path and grant us good in this duniya and also Akhirah. Ameen.

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,

Such banks are among the groups that keep bringing humanity to the brink so it is no wonder your soul sends you warning flares and it is no wonder it is difficult to leave behind their worldly incentives. The other institution would benefit from motivated and qualified Muslims.

As the hadith states: “Halal is clear and haram is clear but in between are dubious matters which many people do not know about. Stay away away from them and you will save your religion.” Another hadith states: “Leave what causes you doubt and follow what does not cause you any doubt.”

As for the question “what happens if all Muslims shun that sector” even non-Muslims know there is something called Islamic Banking now. It is our responsibility to study it and build it up, not stay on the easy road to perdition.

Hadith: following the tails of cows

Question:
Salamu alaikum dear sheikh,
JazakAllah khair for that and your time.
What is meaning of Prophet’s hadith “when people become stingy about their dinar and dirham, when they buy and sell using monetary specimen, when they follow the cowtail…” (Hilyat awliya pg 341 in English)? I understand the stingy part, but what’s the monetary specimen, and cowtail?
Wasalam
Answer:
`Alaykum Salam,
Imam al-Munawi said in al-Taysir li-Sharh al-Jami` al-Saghir that it means when people become stingy away from spending their money in the paths of righteousness and they use `eena sales, i.e. they start selling to a term only to buy back for a lesser price, and they follow cowtails i.e. get engrossed in agricultural wealth, neglecting the duties of worship and abandoning Struggle in the Way of Allah, Allah will bring them lower and lower until they return to their religion.
Narrated by Imam Ahmad in the Musnad, al-Tabarani in al-Kabir, and al-Bayhaqi in Shu`ab al-Iman with a fair chain from Ibn `Umar.

Two wives

Question:

After seeing an unknown member of the complimentary gender and feeling a sense of familiarity and attraction. I told a friend about it, who said that this happens when you’re in the Tariqa and it can be hard to not act upon, and duas is the only thing he’s found to  help.  He said I can expect it to happen again, and it has for the 3rd time now. This time I felt it from them to me, rather than from me to them (it felt like their heart was jumping out at mine) and now I keep thinking about how nice it would be to have another wife (her).

My friend who gave the advice unfortunately doesn’t have children but I’ve got no excuse. Is this a manifestation of greed in me? What is the stance in our Tariqa and of Maulana?

Answer:

The right understanding of Tariqa is to be simple and practical and work hard for Allah and His Prophet, not lay supine and claim to make only dua when it comes to helping others achieve marriage which is half of the religion. Fifty years of teaching have passed but there are still people who claim affiliation to Mawlana and yet they do not see that the first thing he asks of newcomers is: Are you married? If not, get married at once. Therefore he is saying stop creating obstacles for yourselves and others, it is un-Islamic, anti-Sunna and anti-Sufi. Get married, help others do so, and give them blessings and support when they do, without inventing objections in the name of Tariqa or what not.

Sufism without a Shaykh

Question:

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham & TEAM
As-sallamu Alaykum,

I am responsible for a circle of Naqshbandi ladies dhikr/Cairo Egypt. Sometimes I get new ladies who say: “We are Sufis without a Shaykh”. They don’t want to commit to a Shaykh. I accept them and tell them to read Fatihah for Prophet (s)/ make salawat so they can be able to identify their Shaykh. It usually works this way. Eventually they take online bay`ah with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. However sometimes they tend to be more stubborn/aggressive, to the point that they ask me personally to read dhikr with them without reading Fatihah to Naqshbandi Golden Chain. I told them simply, my Shaykhs taught me this dhikr and the least I can do is read Fatihah for them. Kindly advise/pray for us.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

Give them time to shed the false notions layered over their perception of religion. Tell them about the circle of Hajja Anna in Damascus in which was raised Hajja Naziha. Just read  Fatiha to “Ustazina wa Ustazi Ustazina” without naming so as not to raise objections. Until they accept a living shaykh their shaykh is shaytan but at least they are on the right way and learning little by little, as all of us are in sha Allah.

It is not necessary to approach this man and tell him anything. If he is Muslim, perhaps he will make hajj or is already Hajji. If he is not Muslim perhaps he will become Muslim.

Dream: Bugs coming out from right hand

Dream:

I dreamt of bugs coming out from the root of my right pointing finger (between thumb and pointing finger). I was shocked and cried for help from someone to my left, while pointing to the bugs. I woke up. Then, I fell right back to sleep. I dreamt of standing in front of a class full of heedless grown girls; almost half clothe-less. I was like a teacher standing in front of a class, and when I sat on my chair, I saw “parts” of the ladies. I gotten sick. When I woke up, my eyes were red and worn out.

Interpretation:

Audhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm:

The pointing finger represents your faith and the bugs coming out of it shows a deficiency which needs improvement. The second dream shows that you too much involved in dunya represented by these women.

You may recite salawat daily as it will guide you and protect you.

And Allah knows best.

Unmarried and Pregnant

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum,

My unmarried daughter is pregnant by a non-Muslim. Can we accept gifts from him for the baby? He would like to financially support the child. Is this allowed in Islam? He stated that he cannot embraze Islam as he does not want to upset his Mom. I want nothing to do with him but am making duah that Allah give him the hidayat to see the beauty of Islam and inshallah he will accept and become Muslim. May Allah always guide this site inshallah ameen.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Your unmarried daughter made a grave mistake and must repent and ask Almighty to forgive her. As far as the child, the father can support his son and you should all pray for his heart to open for Islam.

Dream: Prophet Muhammad (s) with the noble shaykh

Dream:

I saw 2 men walking towards me and one left me in the care of the other. The one who’s care I was left in was the noble shaykh and the one who left me in his care was RasoolAllah. Then shaykh Muhammad smiled at Rasoolallah who was on my left, and hen I turned my head and only saw his thobe which was white. I didn’t see his face just his thobe was visible and when they were walking towards me I could only see below their shoulders.

Interpretation:

Alhamdulillah a blessed dream, indicating the value of following Shaykh Muhammad Yaqoobi, and that he is taking you on the path of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and in his footsteps. Not seeing the holy face of the Prophet (s) indicates you need to improve spiritually, at which time you will insha-Allah see their face (s). The most quick improvement will come by getting married, as that is the first and foremost sunnah to keep in our time.
And Allah knows best.

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani says seeing even a hair of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) in the dream, is seeing him truly, and seeing him is a sign of safety and salvation in this world and the next. Mabrook.

Prayer Request: Which way

Request:

A troubled marriage heavily burdened by evil eyes & black magic. A relation neither the happiest together or the happiest apart. In between not knowing what to do. Love no doubt is there, but negative emotions and outrage. Love so deeply that the fear of separation tears one apart, together is suffering and life is at stand-still when apart. Someone whom one can’t live with or live without. Years of not knowing what to do. I am weak in this matter & know not what to do. Guide me please, show me a way.

Response:

Build up your love on a foundation of dhikr that will protect it. Make or renew your bayaa to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and join a weekly group dhikr in your area.
