Prayer Request: Miss the guide and blessing from Sheikh Hisham

Request:

Assalamualaikum,
Madad ya saidi. Madad ya rijallulah, I really need help.

Sheikh Hisham has been guiding me for the last two years. Sometimes I really would like to see his name written on the top of my answer. I miss my sheikh, I miss his guidance. He helped me to bring my loved one come back to me after a 4 year relationship, Sheikh Hisham never told me to give up, everything’s going fine, our relationship is getting stronger, then he felt ready to meet my parents and my family, everything seems fine until suddenly he changed again. I’m afraid of losing him again. Please pray for me and what should I do in the meanwhile? I would like him to be my husband.

Response:

Wa `alaykum salam,

Insha-Allah Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani is praying for you.

Wanting for your brother what you want for yourself

Question:

786

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barkartu,

I need some advice please insha’Allah. It’s regarding money, insha’Allah I will be getting taxes back, about $1,000. I know its not 100% guaranteed but none the less I wanted to ask some advice about it. My heart or head or nafs or whatever wants to give all 100% of it to sufilive.com or my husband wanted to give it to his Muslim friend to help him start a business. I am asking what to do because I don’t want to end up just spending it on stupid things, when I could help out people.

And we are very very very very happy.!!

Answer:

Wa  `alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

When you give to your shaykh, then what he does is to make the very best possible use of that money. Any other one you give it too, there will be wastage involved. Additionally, when you give to your shaykh you are fulfilling the verse:

خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ صَلاَتَكَ سَكَنٌ لَّهُمْ وَاللّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

{Of their goods, take alms, that so thou mightest purify and sanctify them; and pray on their behalf. Verily thy prayers are a source of security for them: And Allah is One Who heareth and knoweth } (Surat at-Tawbah, 9:103)

At that time your shaykh who is a representative of the Prophet (s) in this time, will pray for you and thus you will be given security in this life and the next.

Prayer Request: Disobedient child

Request:

Please pray for my son, aged 8 years. He is quite disobedient and often does not listen to his parents and is reluctant to learn and often disturbs his sister who is studying in higher classes and has an important exam this year.

Response:

Audhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm:

Wa alaikum salaam,

Inshallah the shaykh is praying for you and your son.
Try to be patient and teach him through kindness without anger as is the way of our Prophet (saws). That way he will be attracted through love and affection rather than turned away. Keep making dua for your son.

Want to personally give bayah to Shaykh Nazim

Question:

I have in the past made my bayah to Shaykh Nazim through the late Shaykh Abdul Kerim (May Allah keep him in his mercy) via telephone.

I was told at the same time it would be best to at some point make bayah to Moulana Shaykh Nazim personally. However I hear that permission to visit him has been closed.

Is making a personal bayah still advisable for me?

Answer:

It is always advisable, but given the difficulty, taking baya` through one of his caliphas or representatives is equally valid. He is your shaykh from the Day of Promises, so online, in person, or with a representative is all equal, in the same way that your father is your father, whether you met him or not in this life.

Hadith

Question:

Ibn Arabi has mentioned a Hadith in his writings: “Al-Mahdiyyu Minni, Qaqfu Athari Wala Yukhti”

Could you tell me where I can find this hadith in Ibn Arabi’s books (with page number if possible).

Jazak Allah.

Answer:

The wording is yaqfu not qaqfu. It is in al-Futuhat al-Makkiyya Chapter 366 which is vol. 3 pages 327-340 of the 1329H Maymaniyya edition; specifically, 3:327, 3:332 and 3:335.

Prayer Request: Blessings in career path

Request:

For at least a decade I have consistently been trying to make headway in a career path within which I have 2 degrees but to no avail. It seems all my effort has been in vain. Now that I am getting older, and with family responsibilities I am currently doing a lowly paid job in which I am not happy due to the demands for meeting targets and constant pressure with very little money. I am starting to lose patience and fear falling into depression. Is there anyway of knowing what might be causing the obstacles I am facing? I sincerely seek your dua’s forgive me for any lack of adab.

Response:

a`udhu billah mina ‘sh-shaytani ‘r-rajeem
Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem:

As salaamu `alaikum wa Rahmatullah,

Your situation indeed sounds challenging and we empathize with you. However, consider what Allah says in Surah Ra`d:

Sahih International

{For each one are successive [angels] before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allah . Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.} ( Surat ar-Ra`d, 13:11)

{each (such person) there are (angels) in succession, before and behind him: They guard him by command of Allah. Allah does not change a people’s lot unless they change what is in their hearts. But when (once) Allah willeth a people’s punishment, there can be no turning it back, nor will they find, besides Him, any to protect.}( Surat ar-Ra`d, 13:11)

This is a reminder to look within one’s spiritual nature in relationship to Allah Almighty’s provision and protection through the Angelic world and His Divine Protection.  The anxiety and depression is a sign to awaken to your spiritual potentials as a servant of Allah.  When you improve spiritually and emotionally, your outlook and possibilities will improve with Allah’s Pleasure in your soul and hence your life.  Also, remember those with less than you materially and look to those who are spiritually more advanced. Allah orders: {O you who believe, fear Allah and be with the Trustworthy} (Surat at-Tawba, 9:119)

Our Beloved Prophet (s) is the perfected example of doing without yet maintaining the highest spiritual health.  May Allah improve your condition in this life and the next.

Wallahu `Alam,

Kamau Ayubbi

Questions about prayers

Question:

1: As a Shafi`i would like to confirm …. Is it true that tahajjud prayer can be performed at ANY time after `Isha as long as one has slept then awoke to perform the prayer ( even if before midnight ) ?

2: some call it Fajr , some call it Subh.. What is the meaning & difference between the two?

3: i / we are still trying to get our heads around & understand the timing for `Isha prayer & the degrees & 40 minute ruling etc….. For me is easiest to pray insha as early AS possible to make tahajjud easier.
Some say the 40 minute rule is ok including yourself.
So just to clarify if i were to pray the `Isha 50 minutes directly after Maghrib adhaan ..would this be valid & acceptable ? Even if in Melbourne Australia ? And would this be valid and acceptable regardless of location in Australia or globally ? can you maybe elaborate in this for me a little more .

And if to go to bed straight after my `Isha and adhkar and wake up at any time even if before midnight and pray tahajjud would this also be valid & acceptable ?

4: can you please refer me to some Shafi`i fiqh books that are readily available in English nite including Reliance of the Traveler & Maqasid AS i have these.

Answer:

1. Yes, in the Shafi`i school tahajjud is defined as what is prayed after both Salat al-`Isha and sleeping. That is, even if before midnight.

2. Lexically subh refers to the time of morning while fajr describes the actual cleaving (fajr) of the dawn; fiqh-wise they are synonyms for both the time and the prayer prayed in that time; Qur’anically the term for prayer is fajr while subh is more generic for morning.

3. According to Imam al-Shafi`i’s final position it would be acceptable globally. You can go to http://www.islamicfinder.org and click “Calculation Method: Click here to change” then click “Twilight Angle and Time Difference –> Fajr” and choose “Isha = 50 minutes after Maghrib Time.” Then click “Calculate prayer times” and you will generate a monthly/annual schedule of prayer with that criterion.

As for tahajjud time validity the answer is yes as already stated, and some of the sources even specify “even if people are not yet asleep.”

4. Matn Abi Shuja’ has received a reliable English translation.
