Shaykh Abd al-Rahman al-Kattani’s chain to Sahih al-Bukhari?

Question:
Shaykh ‘Abd al-Raḥmān ibn ‘Abd al-Ḥayy al-Kattānī just passed away at 107 years of age. May Allāh Ta’āla forgive him and have mercy upon him. Is it correct that “It is believed he had the shortest chain of narration in Saḥīḥ al-Bukhārī in our time” as given below?
Shaykh ‘Abdul Raḥmān al-Kattānī – 1. Shaykh Bahā’ al-Dīn al-Afghānī – 2. Imām ‘Abdul ‘Azīz al-Dehlawī – 3. Imām Walīullāh al-Dehlawī- 4. Imām Abū Tāhir al-Kūrānī – 5. Imām Ibrāhīm al-Kūrānī – 6. Imām Qutb al-Dīn al-Nahrawālī – 7. Imām Abul Fatḥ al-Tawūsī – 8. Imām Yūsuf al-Harawī al-Jāmi’ – 9. Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Shadhbakht al-Farghānī – 10. Imām al-Khatlānī – 11. Imām Abū ‘Abdillāh al-Farabrī – Imām Muḥammad ibn Ismā’īl al-Bukhārī
Also, do you have any biographical info on Shaykh Baha al Din Afghani?
Answer:
Amin. Shaykh Baha al-Din al-Afghani was a pious Meccan scholar of Afghan origin who has a biographical entry in Shaykh Yusuf Mar`ashli’s Nathr al-Jawahir.
What you mentioned is false from the following aspects:
1. Neither Shaykh `Abd al-Rahman al-Kattani (who passed away aged 103 years (Gregorian) / 106 years (lunar), not 107 years) nor his father the Musnid `Abd al-Hayy al-Kattani (1302-1382) narrated from Shaykh Baha al-Din al-Afghani (d. 1365) to our knowledge. So the claim that Shaykh `Abd al-Rahman al-Kattani narrated that chain is not true.
2. Ibrahim al-Kurani did not narrate the chain in the fashion claimed above, but rather from Qutb al-Din al-Nahrawali, from his father, from Abu al-Futuh (not Abu al-Fath) al-Tawusi.
3. The chain after Abu al-Futuh al-Tawusi contains three notoriously unverified characters, i.e. even their existence is uncertain let alone their status.
4. None of the knowledgeable authorities — including the Dihlawis and the Kuranis — considered that chain authentic. They only related it as something strange and unusual as the scholars of transmission often do. More importantly, inauthenticity precludes any claim to shortness. So the claim that it is “the shortest chain” is not true.
5. Furthermore the anonymous claim that “it is believed” appears phrased in such a way as to deliberately misrepresent that fact by promoting the chain as something valid and scholarly. In reality it is just a curiosity which no knowledgeable hadith scholar relies upon.

Marriage Istikhara

Question:

I read the dua Istikhara for whether to pursue/marry her. I had a dream we were both in a classroom.
The teacher asked me to answer a question and I was worried because I did not know the answer.
She gave the answer to the teacher, and I felt relieved.

Answer:

This is a good dream and indicates she will be a helpmate for you to reach Akhira safely, insha-Allah. Allah knows best.

madhab

Question:

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
Marhaba

my question is I want to follow Maulana Nazim and the Haqqani way in Tasawwuf
but i follow the Maliki Fiqh.. i am active in studying the Deen and learning the Arabic Language..
is this permissible?

Answer:

wa ‘alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Following a madhhab in no way conflicts with following any of the Four Schools of fiqh and there are Naqshbandi mureeds from all of the four Sunni madhhabs, and even the fifth, the Jafari school. Allah knows best.

Father Died Suddenly

Prayer Request:

Asalamu Alaikum,
My father passed away suddenly in his sleep and he had no current/prior illnesses or diseases.
He went to sleep one night and never woke up next.
Please pray for him and my mother/youngest brother is very heartbroken.
Please make dua.

Answer:

wa ‘alaykum salam,

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani is praying for your father. Shaykh Hisham always reminded us that “nothing is harder than the sudden death” because the family is not expecting it and the one who died is not expecting it and has not prepared for it. May Allah grant you and your family patience and your father maghfira and Allah’s Pleasure with him, transform his faults, sins and mistakes into perfect deeds of worship by the shafa`a of Rasoolullah (s).

No intimacy – help me understand.

Question:

A. Alaykum.

Ever since I began being closer to Allah and our Deen I have unintentionally pulled away from my husband Intimacy and understanding. I have tried and pray but he is becoming a stranger. I am more pulled into world of ibadat. Alhamdulillah.

Answer:

Wa alaikum Salaam wa rahmatullah,

If your husband is a good man, make your intention of Ibadat to increase kindness, compassion, love between you and Allah and you and the creation (including your husband).  Sitting with your husband, spending quality time with him is also considered a sunnah and ibadat.
Worship should be a door to self knowledge and our humanity to know Allah intimately,
but sometimes it can lead to bypassing important human needs such as intimacy.  Discern well and may Allah bless you with completion of your deen!
