Question:
Sallamun Allaykum Mawlana Shaykh Hisham and TEAM,
I am writing from Cairo, Egypt. I feel really confused these days regarding what is going on. Oppression has reached a level beyond description. Peaceful movements are arising to demonstrate. It is legal to demonstrate. I feel that it is my duty towards my country to participate in these movements. I feel that staying at home and expecting others to demonstrate could be hypocritical and selfish.
On the other hand, it could be dangerous to go out and participate. For sure I do pray everyday for oppression to stop. I know that prayer is a very powerful act, but shouldn’t prayer also be coupled by duty or action?
Please advise.
Allah bless you
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
Act as the Prophet (s) said; in times of fitna, stay at home and be busy with your life.
