Question:
Assalamu Alaikum shaykh,
In Pakistani and Indian culture some people after they’re done praying or leave for a while between prayer, they fold a corner of a prayer carpet. They claim if they don’t shaytan will pray on it. Can shaytan pray? Is there any evidence of this theory?
Answer:
Alaykum Salam,
Mawlana Shaykh Nazim also folded it but not Mawlana Grandshaykh (Allah raise their stations). The place of prayer needs to be kept literally clean so here ‘shaytan’ denotes the settling of dirt. Also the stepping of shaytan in the place of prayer denotes interference and waswasa so this prevents it. However, with niyya, even such interference disappears with the first takbir of prayer.
