Everything is haram in the deen until you prove it Halal.
Is it not the other way around and any quotes of evidence that I can give him? JazakAllah Khair. MashaAllah your answers online are helping me deal with opposing questions and making some neo-Salafis who are young and being misguided think about their filthy beliefs. The preponderant position according to the vast majority of the scholars (al-rajih `inda al-jumhur) is that in our Religion “the default in things is permissibility” (al-aslu fil-ashya’ al-ibaha) until proven haram. For example, foods are all considered halal until proven haram, and likewise contracts are all considered valid until proven otherwise. They applied the default ruling of haram to certain major exceptions such as taking lives (dima‘), sexual intercourse (abda`), using properties (amwal), and defamation (a`rad).
