Prophet Moses (as) lifetime

Question:

Salam.

Rabbinical Judaism (in the Seder Olam Rabbah) states Prophet Moses lived from 1391-1271 BC. What years does Islam state he lived? Indeed, 1391-1271 BC would place Prophet Moses in Egypt during the rule of Pharaoh Akhenaten (1375-1358), a monotheist.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,
Short of a specific disclosure to that effect in the Qur’an or the Sunna, there is no attempt in Islamic historiography to verify the dates of Israelite history other than through the latter sources themselves, in light of the hadiths that the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) traced his lineage back only to Adnan and said, “Beyond that, genealogists lie” and “Narrate from the Israelites as long as you avoid lying, and beware especially of lying about me.”
