Question:
- I own my own house which I rent out. Is it permissible to have insurance for:
- the house,
- Landlords’ insurance (I am more concerned about public liability, rather than loss of rent, but I think the policies generally include both),
- Home contents insurance?
Policies often include all the above. Many people say insurance, mortgages, etc, are haram, but when one considers the amount of money that could be lost after a lifetime of savings (e.g. one’s house) or the payouts for a public liability lawsuit etc., it seems a reasonable necessity in the West to have such policies.
- Also, concerning car insurance, is it permissible to have 3rd party property liability insurance (i.e. to cover myself, if I accidentally bump into someone else’s new $300,000 Porsche for example)?
