With MSN and MSH. MSH :We’ve stopped supporting you. URGENT!

Question:

I’m with MSN and MSH. MSH said to me:We’ve stopped supporting you since you got us into politics.(If I remember the dream well)

Answer:

The dream is self-explanatory. As Mawlana Shaykh Nazim always used to warn mureeds, “politics is dirty,” so run away not only from politics but spiritual politics, religious politics, masjid politics, activism, and all kinds of internet nonsense. Allah knows best.

Darkness in the dream:

Question:

AsalamuAlaikum
Last night I saw a dream in which I’m in my house and I am surrounded by black darknesses and I was terrified then I am reciting durood and it made me feel calm but the darkness was still there. (P.s I pray namaz regularly)

Answer:

wa alaykum salam,

That dream is showing what Awliya see today: this world is covered in darkness of self-gratifying tyrannical egoes and desires and no light from namaz/salat, du`a, durood and contemplation (tafakkur/muraqabah). Keep to dhikrullah (and durood/salawat is considered as such) as Allah said:

الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ اللّهِ أَلاَ بِذِكْرِ اللّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ

those who believe, and whose hearts find their rest in the remembrance of God – for, verily, in the remembrance of God [men’s] hearts do find their rest (13:28)

In that you will find safety and calm, and Allah knows best,

cutting hair and nails while intending qurban

Question:

Is there strict prohibition from cutting nails and hair for those who would like to perform the qurban or sacrifice.

Answer:

From the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore Website (MUIS) :

Scholars differ on this issue. The differences can be classified as follow:

[First Opinion]

Sa’id bin Al Musayyib, Rabi’ah, Imam Ahmad, Ishaq and Dawud are of the opinion that the ruling to cut the hair and nails for those who are planning to perform the qurban or the sacrifice, is haraam, until the qurban has been carried out.

[Second Opinion]

This is the opinion of the Shafi’i school of thought. This opinion states that going against the prohibition is makruh (makruh tanzih) or disliked, and not haraam.

This opinion is derived from the hadith of ‘Ayesha (r) who said that there were times when the Prophet(s) had performed the qurban (but he was not in ihram/performing hajj), and yet he did not prohibit what Allah has made permissible, until he had sacrificed the hadi (his qurban in Makkah). In other words, although the Prophet (s) was going to perform the qurban, but because he was not in ihram, he did not do as how those in ihram had to do. Hence, it is understood to mean that he did not observe the prohibition of cutting his hair and nails like how a person in ihram would have to.

[Third Opinion]

This is the opinion of Imam Abu Hanifah and Imam Malik who said that it is not even makruh at all.

And Allah knows best.

Reciting dur̄ud upon seeing the Shaykh or someone of high status

Question:

Salam Alaykum. What does the Sharia say about reciting dur̄ud collectively with the intention of alerting others of his presence so that they stand up? I believe Imam Ibn Abidin considered it impermissible; is this the only opinion amongst our scholars?

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

I am not aware of the prohibition you cite ambiguously — is it prohibition of standing? or of making Salawat to alert others of the presence of the shaykh? In the Shafi`i madhhab both would be permissible:

(i) Salawat is encouraged at all times without exception even when sacrificing an animal and even when sneezing in the Shafi`i madhhab.

(ii) People may stand up out of respect for someone in the Religion, and Imam al-Nawawi wrote a long fatwa to that effect in support of permissibility.

Combining the two by using Salawat towards a praiseworthy ulterior purpose besides dhikr would be like reciting takbir to put out a fire or calm a sea storm or strong winds. It is all still dhikr, but with an implied added intention of du`a. When Muslims mention salawat to calm someone else or as a euphemism for the command to “Be patient” it really means: “Make dhikr of Allah through Salawat on His Prophet, and this will remove anger and improve your spiritual state on the spot in sha Allah.” A fortiori, to do the same to imply “and thereby you will show respect for the religious teacher” is permissible, and Allah knows best.

Husband forcing pregnancy

Question:

Asalamalaikam

My husband of 20 years is forcing me to get pregnant. We have a child already but I feel I am in no state to bear another child. I have mental health issues & injured my back severely in the past. I have pain & not stable mentally.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

Take your husband by the hand, tell him all this gently and patiently. Explain to him the duress it causes you and may further cause you and the family as a whole. Parenthood is a joint fruit of love and understanding, not of force, and children repay their parents accordingly here and hereafter. Ask for his understanding and offer for the both of you to consult a third party for advice such as an elderly relative or even counseling. All the while pray the Salat of Consultation (istikhara) and recite Ya Halim, Ya Hafiz x100 daily for spiritual strength and protection.

Women’s voice awrah

Question:

I heard women’s voice is awrah? Is this true? When we are in a gathering of women and singing, you can of course hear our voices from afar too, are we sinful?

Answer:

The late Egyptian Shaykh Mutawalli Sha`rawi addresses this question in two places of his large collection of fatwas. In one place he says no, since many women among the early generations of Muslims taught classes attended by men, from behind a curtain (such as `A’isha the mother of the believers and Umm Darda’); this would have been impermissible if a woman’s voice was `awrah to men; therefore it is not `awrah. In another place he says yes, it is `awrah if it constitutes fitnah i.e. enticement. It can be added that in the latter case the same can be said of any voice that constitutes fitnah, including a man’s.
