Dhikr Ijaaza

Question:

As salamu alaykum, wah rahmutallhi wa barakatu
Do I need permission to lead Just dhikr, not khwajagan, just basic dhikr, like ‘la ilaha illalallah, ‘allah, allah’ , and the asma ul husna ? Or because these are general recitations can anyone lead this ?
Also is permission needed to recite a Qasida in a gathering ?

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

You can read anything you like. There is no restriction in reading Qur’an and asma’ Allah al-Husna or qasida. They are ordered to be read. You may read what you like. Allah said in Holy Qur’an:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا

ya ayyuha alladhina amanu udhkur-ullah dhikran kathiran.

{O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance.} (Surat al-Ahzab 33:41)

There is also the hadith of the Prophet (s) when the bedouin asked about shari`ah al-Islam. He wished for something easy to follow from the Holy Prophet (s), and the Prophet (s) said, “keep your tongue wet with dhikrullah“. So there is no problem.
