Shaving Newborn’s Hair
Question: Couper les cheveux du nouveau-né

Question:

Assalam `alaikum, Hajjah Naziha,

Hope you are well and in the best of health, on the back of the question with regards to  shaving of the hair after birth – is there any Islamic relevance to this?

Keep us in your du`as.

Answer:

Yes, the sunnas after birth are:

1) Shave the head hair on the 7th day and then weigh the hair and give sadaqa in silver or gold.

It is related by Imam Malik in his Muwatta, Yahya related to me from Malik from Ja`far ibn Muhammad that his father said, “Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet of Allah (s), weighed the hair of Hasan, Husayn, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum, and gave away in sadaqa an equivalent weight of silver.”

2) to make dhabiha;

3) name the baby;

Abu Dawud related that the Prophet (s) said, “Every child is in pledge for it’s `aqiqah which is sacrificed for it on its seventh day, and it is named on it, and its head is shaved.”

4) do adhan in the baby’s  left ear, and iqamah in the right ear.

It is narrated in Abu Dawud, “I saw the Prophet of Allah (s) uttering the call to prayer (adhan) in the ear of al-Hasan ibn Ali when Fatimah gave birth to him.”

Hajjah Naziha

Assalam `alaikum, Hajjah Naziha,

2) faire la dhabiha;

3) nommer le bébé;
