Angels in Islam

Question:

May I be answered for whether Angels have rational potentials as that of human being ?

Answer:

Of course angels possess reason since Allah Most High described them as obedient servants who fear Him and never go against what He commands them, which is the height of reason. This Godfearingness is a proof of their knowledge of Allah Most High, as implied by the sequence of witnesses in the verse {Allah bears witness that there is no god but He
– and the angels, and those possessed of knowledge
} (3:18) and our reading the verse {and they tremble in awe of Him} (21:28) in light of the verse {Those truly fear Allah, among His Servants, who have knowledge} (35:28), both verses using the root kh-sh-y [to fear]. This knowledge, furthermore, mutually supports the aspect of volition as discussed in the following paragraph.

According to Abu Ishaq al-Saffar (d. 534), the position of the generality of Ahl al-Sunna wal-Jama`a is that Allah Most High created them endowed with the faculty of choice and able to understand their Lord, the proofs for this being {Any one of them who should say: Lo! I am a God beside Him, that one We would repay with hell} (21:29) and {They do not disobey Allah in that which He commands them, but do as they are commanded} (66:6). If they were forced to believe while unbelief was inconceivable for them, he would not have said {that one We would repay with hell}, since the requital matches the act; and if they
did not have free choice in their pure monotheism and obedience, the Most High would not have commended them by saying {They do not disobey Allah in that which He commands them, but do as they are commanded}. (al-Suyuti, al-Haba’ik fi Akhbar al-Mala’ik p. 252)

Furthermore Allah Most High called the angels the Lauders, the Scribes, the Highest Assembly, the Honored Ones, and His Messengers; He certainly does not send irrational Messengers to rational human beings! and He allowed them to converse with Him and ask Him questions about creation, as well as made them pray for the believers, as well as made them carry His Throne, and more than that He ordered them to bless the Holy Prophet
and the believers, all of which would detract from the greatness and munificence of Allah if we were to claim that they might not be rational since Allah Most High placed reason among the greatest gifts in the Holy Qur’an by summoning human beings to it time and again.

Angels do not know the future (Q 27:65, 72:26-27), however, according to the majority of scholars, they are aware of the innermost thoughts of human beings on the basis of the Hadith qudsi: “When My servant wants to do an evil deed, do not record it against him until he actually does it” (al-Bukhari and Muslim) cf. Shaykh `Abd Allah Siraj al-Din, al-Iman bil-Mala’ika (p. 146-152).

The claim that angels are not rational is one of the most extreme aberrations of a Wahhabi by the name of Muhammad Hamid al-Fiqqi the founder of the Ansar al-Sunna al-Muhammadiyya in Egypt, in which he tried to enshrine the teachings of Muhammad Abduh and Muhammad Rashid Rida that angels and jinn do not have any objective reality but symbolize psychic forces or what another one of their kind, Muhammad Haykal [author of the famous Sira], called “figurizations of divine truths” and other gobbledygook. The Wahhabis themselves have refuted it in several pamphlets as documented here but this is all secondary since Ahl al-Sunna wal-Jama`a from the first have always agreed that angels are rational.

Will of Hadrath Abu bakr as-Siddiq (ra)

Question:

Assalamu `alaikum waRehmatullahi waBarakatuh,

I have come across this wasihah(Will) of Hadrath Abu Bakr as-Siddiq RadiALLAHu anhu:
“Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq RadiALLAHu anhu expressed his will that my janaza should be taken to the blessed shrine of RasulULLAH Sallallahu alaihi wasallam and then it should be said, Assalatu wassalamu alayka Ya RasulALLAH, Abu Bakr is present at your door. The companions followed his advice. The doors of the shrine opened by themselves and a voice came from the blessed grave saying, Udkhulul Habeeb ila Habeeb (bring the beloved to his beloved).[Imam Fakhr uddin al Razi in Tafsir al-Kabir – v.5, p.475]”

I have also read on some website that it is in Khasais al-Kubra of Imam Suyuti rahmaullah but don’t have the reference. Can you please tell the authenticity of this wasihah? Also I want to have a talk with Shaykh GF Haddad Hafidhullah in personal mail..

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

It is mentioned by al-Ajurri in his book al-Shari`a, without chain.

Is this an authentic Hadith?

Question: Authentic?

AssalaamuAlykom,

Once Musa (AS) askd Allah: O Allah! U have granted me the honor and privilege of talking to you directly, Have you given this privilege to any other person? Allah replied, O! Musa during the last period I am going to send an Ummat, who will be the Ummat of Muh. (SAW) with dry lips, parched tongues, with livers dry and stomachs suffering the pangs of hunger will call out to me (in dua) they will be much closer to me than you O Musa! While you speak to me there are 70000 veils between you & me but at the time of iftaar there will not be a single veil between me & the fasting Ummati of Muh (SAW) O! Musa I have taken upon myself the responsibility that at the time of iftaar I will never refuse the dua of a fasting person!

Answer:

Alaykum as-Salam,

Allah Most High in the Holy Qur’an explicitly described the Prophet Musa, upon him peace, as chosen and elect above the rest of creation and He cites him among the Prophets whom He has highly favored. Imam Ahmad narrated that after his meetings with Allah Most High on Mount Sina, Prophet Musa would remain veiled for forty nights such that no one could look at him without falling dead due to the light from the Lord of the worlds. So the text quoted is inauthentic except for the hadith that there the dua of the fasting person is accepted at the time they break their fast, and Allah knows best.

wa `alaykum salam,
This dream can mean that a new situation, represented by the new house, is presented to you but you are not sure, represented by fear and running away. Try to make dhikr of “HasbunAllahu wa ni`mal wakeel,” which will take the fear away and help you to think straight.

And Allah (swt) knows best.

Dream: Squirrels

Dream:

Assalamualaikum,
I’ve performed Salatul Istikhra. After performing the 5th istikhara I dreamt of a squirrel running around in my kitchen. It was trying to find it’s way out. I am not an animal lover but I was very loving towards the squirrel it had trust in me for some reason it was listening it to me. I was guiding it as to how it should get back to it’s family while watching it go in the ground I shouted because I saw this half lizard half fat reptile thing going towards him. But the reptile was actually half human and he was asking someone I knew for help as he said he was sick and he wants to come back to his normal form. He was not harmful. I performed an istikhara for marriage for a man I’ve been seeing for 4 years now. Thank you.

Interpretation:

a`udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajeem
Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem:

wa `alaykum salam,
Four years is long enough. Get married in sha Allah.
