Wearing a headscarf

Question:

Wanting to wear a headscarf but family says other people have disgraced the name so you cannot wear it and I only want to do it for my self and Allah but I can’t not listen to my family and they also say you don’t have to wear it if your heart is clean but I think its a necessity. What shall I do?

Answer:

When a girl reaches puberty, she has to cover her aurat (which includes her hair). You don’t have to wear a cover in front of your family; or, if you like, wear it as a fashionable item so that it doesn’t look as if you’re covering your hair, to avoid problems with your family. Allah knows your intention and in sha Allah He will make it easy for you.

Rationality vs faith: Dreams

Question:

Salams Sheikh!

First, I’d like to thank MSN for his help. Secondly, I have a strange question; I will try to put into words: I come from a rational, secular background and have all these true and good dreams and visions mashAllah. Most people just tell me this is just hocus pocus and even that good, religious dreams are probably from Satan. I get really confused then. How do I stop myself from getting confused? I get stressed thinking about the worst case scenario all the time thinking it is probably Satan’s trick.

I am sane though. Thanks Sheikh, I hope you understand what I’m trying to ask. My rationality is ruining my belief.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

Keep company with people of spiritual knowledge. Attend a weekly or regular gathering of dhikr with the intention of putting into practice the Divine command that “if you are a believer, then keep company with the truthful ones.”

Punishments

Question:

Salam Shaykh Gabriel,

(1a) Can a non-Muslim punish a Muslim for transgressions of Sharia?

I mean if it is not the law in their country can they say this to a Muslim and practice against him and use shayateen against him and his family and say it is a punishment for your sins because a Sufi Shaykh told them to do this?

(1b) Please give references from all four schools fiqh and all schools of aqida and tassawuf, especially about whether they can punish a Muslim for his sins, from the point of view of Shariah, or whether a Muslim could in a non-Muslim country, if not the khilafah, all of these questions with or without any exception?

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

The answer to (1a) is yes, for example punishment for murder, theft etc. As for sihr it is haram, as is use of shayateen, and among the enormous sins.

Dream: Ruqya for my father

Dream:

Dream within the past month: I was doing ruqya for my father. I was reading different ayats from the Qur’an with my hand on different areas of the chest. As I moved my hand around different areas of his chest I sensed  disturbance coming from the lower, middle portion of his chest. After discovering the disturbance, the dream ended (my father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s nearly two years ago).

Interpretation:

Passing your hand over father’s chest represents your prayers for your ancestors. The disturbance was some mistakes they made in their lives, now corrected with the baraka of the du`a supported by Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani.

Readers Block!

Question:

When I was in my teens and twenties, I used to read roughly 3-4 books a week, but sometime in my early to mid-twenties I began to have real difficulties concentrating for any length of time until I couldn’t read 2 pages from beginning to end. By the time I had finished the 2nd page I had forgotten what was written on the 1st and I’d have to start again and the same thing would keep happening until I just gave up trying. The ability to concentrate just seems to have left me. Is there any kind of explanation for this from a Sufi perspective for why this would happen?

Answer:

Tasawwuf is all about action rather than memorization. Furthermore, as stated in two foundational hadiths, what is best is what suffices even if little, and regular action even if little, is best:

مَا قَلَّ وَكَفَى خَيْرٌ مِمَّا كَثُرَ وَأَلْهَى

which means “What is not much but suffices is better than what is much and distracts”

and

كَانَ أَحَبُّ الأَعْمَالِ إِلَى رَسُولِ الله صَلَّى الله عَلَيه وسَلَّم مَا دَامَ عَلَيْهِ الْعَبْدُ وَإِنْ قَلَّ

which means “The most beloved of deeds to the Messenger of Allah (upon him blessings and peace) was what was practiced regularly, even if little.”

How to stop zulum by hand

Question:

Assalam Alaikum Wa Rehmatullah to MSN, MSH and all brothers and sisters,

I went through a very bad situation: I was returning home on a rainy night and there was an accident between a rickshaw and car and the rickshaw was on correct line of road but car was wrong and the owners of car, young boys, were beating and threatening the poor rickshaw driver. I was watching the entire situation in-front of them but I did not get the power to even say them to stop this. I feel ashamed of myself that I am mureed of Haqqani and in action I did nothing to stop these zulum. Advise me how should I get power to stop zulum by hand and be a Real Haqqani.

Assalam Alaikum Wa Rehmatullah

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

If unable to stop wrongdoing by hand it is enough to disown it in your heart through du`a and dhikr. In the situation you described it is also advisable to report it to the authorities rather than interfere, and Allah knows best.

First Thing to Teach Children?

Question:

What is the first thing parents should teach their children?

Answer:

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani says, in Mercy Oceans, Book Two:

What is the first thing parents should teach their children? According to the hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, make his first speech to be the Holy name of our Lord, to say ‘Allah, Allah, Allah.’ Whoever speaks this firstly we hope he may speak it lastly.
