How should be non-Muslims dealt?

Question:

Assalam u alayekum !
From verse 33 and 13 of al maeda we have two different ways to deal with disbelievers. Similarly in sura e tauba particularly, Momineen are ordered to take a hardline approach against disbelievers. In more than one place in Quran, it is said that don’t befriend disbelievers but it is also said that call them towards your way (Islam) with wisdom, which is not possible without getting close culturally and socially to those disbelievers/non-Muslims. I have feared many a times that don’t say salam to any non-Muslim and even if he says salam to you, you may say wa alayekum only implying this on greetings of each culture/language, I think it would create a hatred and repulsion in the hearts of disbelievers towards Islam. All these things make me confused.
Please explain that what should be our behaviour with disbelievers?

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Some understood the Prophetic prohibition to be one of preference and said you may give salam to a non-Muslim according to several major Companions such as Ibn `Abbas, Abu Umam al-Bahili and Ibn Muhayriz, Allah be well-pleased with them, as mentioned by Imam al-Nawawi in Sharh Sahih Muslim (Book of Salam) and he said it is the position of some of the imams of the Shafi`i School which al-Mawardi mentioned, and Allah knows best.

Islam and psychology

Question:

Assalam u alayekum !
I have two questions from Sura e Maeda.
1-Allah forbade to seek the luck by means of arrows. These days certain ways are used to make a choice. These ways imply the power of sub-concious and psychology. Drowsing and pendulum hypnosis are two prominent such ways. Is it permissible to do so or does it fall in the category of this order (of seeking luck with arrows)? Or is it valid when used for oneself only?
2- Earlier this year I had read a post in which one of shuyukh said that only permissible marriage in Islam is with Muslim women (if I’m not wrong) but doesn’t verse 5 of al maeda allows us to marry women of People of Book (please consider the fact that even at that time People of Book used to commit polytheism and they continue to do it even today.)

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Dredging the subconscious is not from the Sunnah and bad surprises may be expected there, as one is left vulnerable. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (Allah sanctify his soul) always advised people in psychology and psychiatry to switch to another field. As for the other question see:

Dream: MSN TELLING TO MOVE BEFORE THE 4th OF NOVEMBER

Dream:

Assalamualaikum, I dreamt that MSN was talking to me and told me I should move before the 4th of November. In the same dream, my husband and I moved to a flat next door. And also some time ago I dreamt that we were in Sham, I had a baby and we were having our house built on mountain Jabal Qasiyun. My heart felt a very strong attraction to Sham since my husband and I, and a close friend wants to move there to learn more about Deen, live a more basic, simple life, to be with mureeds of MSN… Can you please explain to me what it means? Should we move house? Or move to Syria?
Jazak Allah.

Interpretation:

wa `alaykum salam,

The dream indicates that any important decision that was pending should have been settled before Eid, and Allah knows best. Moving to Syria is out of the question right now.

Saints Cosmas and Damian can be considered a Muslim?

Question:

Assalamu wa ‘alaykum Shuyukh Ul-Haqq!

My family is Catholic, I have read about saints of Christianity and I found that many saints coming before revelation of Prophet Muhammad phub. My question is: the Christian saints before Muhammad phub were Muslims and went to Paradise? We provided that Muslims can help the parties who make them?

Barakallahu Fik

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Allah Most High placed them among the righteous when he said:

{They are not all alike. Of the People of the Scripture there is a staunch community who recite the revelations of Allah in the night season, falling prostrate (before Him) They believe in Allah and the Last Day, and enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency, and vie one with another in good works. They are of the righteous. And whatever good they do, they will not be denied the meed thereof. Allah is Aware of those who ward off (evil)} Surat aal-`Imran 3:113-115

There are other verses also referring to them in praising terms.

Shadi

Question:

I mailed you before as well and I want to thank you for your reply. His family is sort of ready but they want my family to proceed one and ask for rishta which is impossible. My father can make me sit at home all my life but he won’t do so. Please pray for us and tell me anything to pray and tell me please if he is good for me.

[private names]

Answer:

Traditionally the boy’s family is the one who comes over and asks, however, if it suits both sides it is not impossible for the girl’s family to visit on a simple social basis. Recite Ya Sattar, Ya Karim 100 times in your du`as for ease. Insha-Allah Mawlana Shaykh Hisham will pray for you.

Dream: Killing Shaytan

Dream:

Assalam- Alaikum
May I pass many heartfelt greetings of peace to Shaykh Hisham.
I had a dream in which I was with a large gathering of Western academics, the majority of whom were Christians. It was possibly an inter-faith dialogue meeting and they had handed out ribbons like crosses. An evil entity appeared and started to trouble all in the conference and the Christians tried to contain it with their crosses but to no avail. I felt it was either from amongst the shayateen or an evil jinn. It came close to me and I threw the cross-like ribbon on the floor and grabbed the monstrous creature by the neck and recited’ Aoozubillah and Bismillah (in their entirety and aloud). It shrank and was destroyed and the people were freed from the torment.

Interpretation:

wa `alaykum salam,

The dream is self-explanatory. Take bay`a if you have not already done so.
