Meaning of Imam Shafi’s statement

Question:

From Sh. Hisham’s book:
Al-hafiz al-Suyuti relates in Ta’yid al-haqiqa al-`aliyya that Imam al-Shafi`i said: “I accompanied the Sufis …their statement that deprivation is immunity”.

What does ‘deprivation in immunity’ mean? I don’t wish to speculate.

Answer:

It means simple living or zuhd. The less possessions and wants the less liabilities in dunya and akhira. Hence, immunity from heavy accountability.

Travel light as in the dua of Rajab: O Allah give me a badan hayyinan layyinan, a body pliable to worship, not enslaved and made heavy by needs appetites luxury and desires.

Types of Taqlid?

Question:

As salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatuLLAHi wa barakatuh,
What are the types of Taqlid and do we differentiate between Taqlid in a Fiqhi Madhhab like Hanafiyyah and Taqlid in an ‘Aqidah Madrassah like Ash’ariyyah?

Answer:

Alaykum salam,
For the majority of people taqlid is for whoever teaches them the religion including creed and salat, which therefore is a combination of doctrinal and juridical rulings. After that the more knowledge one acquires the more their grasp of proofs increases and their taqlid diminishes. However, we are obligated to believe in Allah and the Last Day and Prophet (saws) with complete conviction devoid of taqlid.

See also here, and if you read Arabic there are two worthy books on the topic by Syrian scholars: Muhammad Sa’id al-Bani, ‘Umdat al-tahqiq fi al-taqlid wa al-talfiq (Damascus: Hukumat Dimashq Press, 1923) and Abdal Ghani Nabulusi, Khulasat al-tahqiq fi bayan hukm al-taqlid wa-al-talfiq.

About Music

Question:

I often hear opposite claims about the same source of information. From Sufis and Salafis. For example what I am asking about is Music. Reading the Music of Jannah post, can we play instruments too? Also if this is true, what about ma’aazif in fat-hul Baari which is claimed to be from Bukhari? And the claim about the Imams regarding this issue?

Answer:

Your question is a series of general or vague references. Please make your question specific. Please cite a valid link if you refer to a text online and quote the specific statement you are referring to so we know what you mean.

Raining of grains

Question:

I had a dream that I was holding a large white umbrella and it was raining of grains, I appeared happy in the dream.

Answer:

Salaam, it may be that Allah is showering you with blessings and provisions and favors and inspirations that you are overlooking. Try to move beyond practicing your religious duties in a mechanical way, and try to go deeper into your heart, to see what your Lord has put there. Use what you need and give from what is more than your needs. This is what I understand from your dream, but Allah knows better and best. Wa salli ala Nabiyy.

Salaam,
Abdul Haqq

In this case you need to seek the verdict of an Islamic scholar.

“O ye who believe! Obey God, and obey the Apostle, and those charged with authority among you…” (Qur’an 4:59)

Divine

Question:

Salaam Sheikh,
I have recently lost my imaan. I fell in love with a Christian. Instead of trying to convert him I lied to him about how I feel. I was confused. I normally never lie. I live in regret. I need him and I need my iman. Help me. Did I do wrong?

Answer:

Audhubillahi min ash-shaytani ‘r-rajeem
Bismillahirahmanirahim

Wa alaikum Salaam,

We are living in a time as described by the Prophet (peace be upon him) that to hold your deen would be like holding on to a hot coal. However, if we know with certainty that we are holding on to something more precious than the most rare diamond, it eases the pain and gives us the strength to move on in the path of Allah. As human beings we are going to follow the way of the one we love. If the love of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is granted to our hearts, we will be inclined to love what he loves and dislike what he dislikes which will ultimately be to our success and happiness. If the love of people, wealth, etc. competes with the love of the Prophet (peace be upon him) we will find our hearts confused and our life will reflect this. Try to follow the way in which your heart will find peace, security and Divine Love to achieve the best of this life and the hereafter.

Wa min Allah tawfiq,

May Allah for the sake of His love of His Prophet and with the prayers of our beloved Awliyaullah help you and your brother. Remember that all tests of this life end, since life itself is just a journey. With each situation you will be rewarded according to your intention in this world or the next for sure. You both have to show patience and perseverance and do the best for the day it comes. Leave the rest to Allah and continue your dua as well as his medications. All our prayers are with you, too.
