Savings Bond

Question:

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakartu
A long time ago my grandma took out savings bonds for all the grandkids, she put $1,000 down. Well she recently cashed the savings bond and now its $5,000 my parents want me to use that money towards a new vehicle but I’m worried about some or all of it being haram for me to use. Would Allah forgive me or do i just keep the $1,000 and let my mom and dad keep the rest? I’d ask my mom and dad to trade me the money but my mom works at a bank so would her income be haram?
Thank you!!

Answer:

Wa `alaykum salam,

What pays back interest is Riba. Bond is not different from a loan that pays back interest. In this case the bond is a Riba instrument and the interest gained from it is Haram. Your mom’s income generated by working in a Bank is not Haram. Allah knows best.

istikharah

Question:

Can u do istikara for me? My name is [private] my mother is [private], the guys mother’s name is [private] and his name is [private]. I got engaged against my will and my reason to refuse was religious and cultural issues I have in it. I find out these people are following culture that is against Islamic laws, like Pakistani culture honor killing, family politics, and getting a visa . I want to live a life where I don’t have to be force to submit to a cultural practice and raise my kids and family on true Islamic principles. As I get to know him that he has no religious goals, he said he is moderate , and have less interest in religious affairs, I want to do istikara even now because I still feel he is not the best match for a person like me.

Answer:

No one may force you to marry against your will. It is a big sin for parents or guardians to force a grown daughter to marry someone after she made clear her reply by just saying No. Speak to your parents and make dua so Allah open their hearts to your concerns. Be patient and loving to avoid arguments as much as possible.

As for dishonorable killing, it is worse than burial of daughters alive. So you are fully in your right to keep clear and Allah is supporting you in sha Allah as well as Prophet (saws), angels and all believers among humankind and jinn; and Allah is enough so do not fear. Say Hasbiya Allah Rabbiya Allah daily x100 up to 1000 times. He will give you someone better in sha Allah.

Wa `alaykum salam,

Based on your description [i.e. he beats you and he wants you for his satisfaction, not for marriage!], as Shaykh Taher said in a similar post, “it would be better to ask Allah to remove your feelings for him and allow you to move on. To that intention recite Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`un 70x daily.”

Below is an excerpt from Sultan al-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Adil’s (may Allah bless his soul) suhbah, “The First Order is to Marry,” dated 8 September 2011:

Marriage is the first command of Allah Almighty and He Himself first ordered the marriage of Sayyidina Adam (a), and His command will continue up to end of the world! Now we are following Allah Almighty’s holy command and we are trying to follow that holy order to marry.

This world would be like a paradise if people followed that order, but Shaytan, the biggest enemy of Mankind, is never happy about marriage as he likes adultery. So he creates problems between people and that is the main cause of problems among Mankind and all nations, because people left the first command of Allah Almighty and are following Shaytan. That opens all troubles, sufferings, wars and every badness, because people are running after haraam, adultery; not following the clean way and the holy command of Allah Almighty! Therefore,  I am happy tonight that my grandson was asking to marry according to the holy commands of Allah Almighty, as today most young people are running to commit adultery and they will never be happy here or Hereafter.

How do we dispose of Quranic texts?

Question:

How do we dispose of scripts of the Holy Qur’an?

Answer:

From http://www.daruliftaa.com/

As far as old and unusable copies of the Qur’an are concerned, it is not permitted to burn them unless there is no other way to dispose of them.

The great Hanafi Imam, Imam Ibn Abidin (may Allah have mercy on him) states:

“If a copy of the Mushaf (Qur’an) becomes old and it is difficult to read from it, it should not be burnt in fire. This is what Imam Muhammad (m: student of Imam Abu Hanifa) pointed out and this is what we take. It will not be disliked to bury it. It should be wrapped in a pure cloth, and a Lahd grave (m: grave that has a incision in the side wall, customary in hot climate countries where the earth is solid) should be dug, because if a Shiq grave (m: grave with a straight opening, common in cold climate countries due to the earth being soft) is dug and the copy of the Qur’an is buried, it will entail the soil falling on top of the Qur’an which is a form of disrespect, unless a slab is placed as a roof…” (Radd al-Muhtar, 5/271)

In light of the above, there are two methods of disposing of an unusable copy of the Qur’an:

1) Wrapping it in a pure piece of cloth and burying it respectfully in a place where people (normally) do not walk about. In cold climate countries (such as the UK), one may dig a Shiq grave, but a slab should be placed first and over it the soil.

2) Fastening the Qur’an with a heavy object like a stone and then placing it respectfully in flowing water.

If one is able to implement the above two methods, it would not be permitted to burn the copy of the Qur’an. However, if the above two methods are difficult to carry out, then one may burn the Qur’an and bury or drown the resulting ash.

Dream: Prophet (s) Inside a Masjid

Question:

As-salamu alaykum,

I walked into the Masjid and began to take my shoes off on the shoe rack when a group of Masjid elders rushed over to me in a hurry saying “The Prophets here! The Prophets here! Don’t you want to meet him??” They held my arm and began to pull my towards the main hall. I was shocked but said yes.

I entered the main hall and saw the Prophet sitting in the main hall on the Minbar, a few steps up. He was dressed in all bright white robes, and a white turban. All the elder men at the Masjid were crying to the Prophet saying “Where are you? We need you, We’re lost without you” and they were all holding on to the right arm of the Prophet. I stood in front of the Prophet and fell to my knees while staring at him, but I couldn’t look directly into the eyes of the Prophet. There was shade covering only his eyes. While I was staring at the Prophet and the Masjid elders were crying and holding his arm the Prophet extended his left arm (which was vacant) to me and held his hand out. I looked at his hand and extended my right hand to grasp his left. As I clenched the Prophets hand I saw him smile, but not a wide smile, it was a small smile where only the left side of his lips extended and he lightly nodded his head up and down.

I have gotten different interpretations of this dream and I wanted to hear your thoughts.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

What a magnificent dream!

When you ask multiple people about a dream, only the first interpretation you receive is going to be applicable. In any case seeing the Prophet (s) in a dream means you saw him in reality, or you will see him in real life, as many ahadith mentioned, man raa’nee fil-manaam fa sayaraanee fil-yaqazhah. That is good tidings to you for this life and safety in the next, in-sha-Allah as our Shaykhs have interpreted.
