Hadiths about reward of 50,000 prayers in the Prophet’s mosque

Question:

Al-salamu ‘alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakathu,

I pray that you are well.

Are there any sound hadiths that can be relied upon for the reward of 50,000 prayers in the Prophet’s Mosque? For example, what do the scholars say about Anas ibn Malik’s narration in Ibn Maja’s Sunan?

Jazakallahkhairan.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh,
There is none to my knowledge and the hadith in Ibn Majah is weak. Al-Tabarani says it only comes through Hisham b. `Ammar which means it is gharib. Ibn Makula said it is disclaimed (munkar) and Ibn Hajar did not dispute that verdict. In his commentary on al-Tirmidhi Anwar Shah Kashmiri said, “It is well-known that Ibn Majah’s unique reports are seldom authentic.” And Allah knows best.

Hadith: Whoever displays their worship for the sake of people…

Question:

salam ‘alaykum,

Can you give an explanation of this hadith:
وفي الحديث ( من سمَّع سمَّع الله به ، ومن يرائي يرائي الله به ) رواه البخاري .

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

This hadith was given several explanations. Among them:

– Whoever makes a display of their worship and good deeds for the sake of people will be exposed by Allah on the Day of Judgment as a bad example.
– Whoever denounces and exposes others or displays their own goodness to be honored by people will be exposed and dishonored on the Day of Judgment.
– Whoever hides their worship out of shame from people or on the contrary displays them for their approval, will be exposed and denounced on the Day of Judgment.

Another version adds:
which means: “and whoever makes things difficult for others, Allah will make things difficult for him.”

Hadith on Rewards Being Carried on Plates of Light

Question:

Assalam-o-alaikum dear sheikh,

Do you know the source of the following narration and its grading please:
“It is related that the gifts of alms, prayers, and Qur’anic recitation sent by the living to the dead reach them carried by the angels on plates of light, and adorned with silk handkerchiefs, and they say to them: ‘This is a gift from so-and-so’, and in this way they find joy and delight. “(Narrated by Imam Haddad in his book “The lives of man”)

Jazak Allah khair, wasalam.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

This is from Ihya’ `Ulum al-Din, chapter on the rights of brotherhood, attributed to “one of the early Muslims” (ba`du al-Salaf), and the text reads:

وقال بعض السلف الدعاء للأموات بمنزلة الهدايا للأحياء فيدخل الملك على الميت ومعه طبق من نور عليه منديل من نور فيقول هذه
هدية لك من عند أخيك فلان من عند قريبك فلان
قال فيفرح بذلك كما يفرح الحي بالهدية

The above is supported by Prophetic hadiths which Imam al-Qurtubi adduces in his book al-Tadhkira fi Ahwal al-Mawt wal-Akhira, chapter on “What follows the dead person in their grave after death and remains with them there” which I cite below:

Hadith on Prophetic Succession

Question:

Bismillah al Rahman al Rahim

Assalaamu ‘Alaykum Shaykh Gibril Haddad,

Inshallah everything is well. Had the honor of taking a class with you online through Seekers Guidance on Ibn Hajar’s Nukhbat al-Fikr a while back. Just have one question in regard to a Hadith and would be delighted to have it clarified.

In the Mu’jam of Ibn al A’raabi (340 AH), the Hadith on Prophetic Succession “تسوسوهم الأنبياء” (Hadith ) contains a distinct chain of narration in that Ghaylan bin Jami’ narrates that Furat ibn Abi ‘Abd al Rahman al Qazzaz al Tamimi narrates from an apparently unknown narrator, Muhammad al Nadri, who in turn then narrates from Abu Hazim al Ashja’i.

Whereas, all the authentic narrations state that Furat narrated it directly from Abu Hazim as authentically narrated by Shu’ba (who as a matter of principle only narrated from narrators who heard directly from who they narrated from), ‘Anbasa bin Sa’id, Muhammad bin Juhada, ‘Amru bin Abi Qays al Razi, and Hasan bin Furat, as well as Isra’il bin Yunus. Shu’ba’s narration through Muhammad bin Ja’far al Hazli ‘Ghundar’ is the only narration which contains an explicit statement of tahdith from Furat hearing Abu Hazim (‘sam’itu‘ Aba Hazim while Abd al Samad’s from Shu’ba does not). Understand that Ghundar is most authentic specifically in regard to Shu’ba, and had put soundly into writing the Hadith he heard from Shu’ba. However, how can one know that this Hadith on Prophetic Succession was narrated by Ghundar via his checking his book or narrating from it if no explicit statement exists in that regard. Stating this only because it is also said he had ghafla as Ibn Hajar conveyed in Taqrib al Tahthib.

Dear Shaykh, my question is how does one account for such an occurrence in the narration contained in the Mu’jam stating that Furat narrated it from Muhammad al-Nadri and not Abu Hazim directly and also maintain the definitive authenticity of the other narrations which state Furat narrates directly from Abu Hazim?

There are other noteworthy things in the narration found in the Mu’jam of Ibn al A’raabi:
1) In terms of the sanad, it appears that there is a gap between Ya’la bin Yahya and Ghaylan bin Jami’ given the rather large time gap and that Ya’la narrates other narrations through his father to Ghaylan.
2) The matn does not contain the specification ‘Bani Isra’il‘ with respect to the Prophets (peace be upon them)
3) The matn also does not contain the introductory statement of Abu Hazim

Baraka Allah fiikum.
Jazak Allah khayr

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

Bukhari in his Tarikh al-Kabir states that Furat ibn Abi ‘Abd al Rahman al Qazzaz al Tamimi

1) was originally from Basra
2) and his kunya was Abu Muhammad.

So the sanad in Ibn al-A`rabi does not contain an extra link, rather, it is one and the same narrator — Furat — but you have to correct two typos that slipped in. Namely:

NOT

BUT

Dream: Urgent istikhara

Question:

Assalamu alaykum,

A friend of mine just broke up from her non-Muslim boyfriend (who recently made shahadah and whom she wanted to marry) after finding out that he was cheating on her. She is very heartbroken, but still hopeful that he will come back to her and accept to marry her. She made istikhara and saw the following dream:

I walked into a room where there was my sister and a young child possibly 3 years of age and an unknown third person. When I asked my sister what happened to the child, she said that she died based on an allergic reaction to a type of potato that she ate. When I asked my sister if her parents knew that she died and if the Saudi government knew that she died (because the baby was a Saudi), my sister said, everybody knows the girl has died. Then I sat on the bed next to the girl, staring at the dead child, and all of a sudden her eyes open and she stares at me and starts to cough. Then something was said twice, “Inna Allaha yahyee izhaama wa hiya rameem (Surely, Allah is able to revive bones after disintegration).”

If you can please interpret this for her, as she is going through a very difficult time.  JazakAllahu khayr.

Answer:

Alaykum salam,
Mawlana Shaykh Hisham is praying for you and your friend. The dead child in the dream represents her innocence and the potato represents the person who betrayed her as well as her country which in the dream represents Islam. However, the resuscitation shows that she can move on and recover her strength without despairing in the gifts of Allah as He
will give her better than what she lost in sha Allah.

marriage/love advice

Question:

I met a guy and started texting. He confessed to me that he was in love with a girl and he stopped contact because she’s in school and her family disapprove. He says he’s over her but now and again and he says the feelings towards her are back and he thinks what he had with her is true love. At the same time he says I’m perfect for him and can see us spending our lives together but he can’t get that “love” feeling with me. On my side I performed istikhara and was positive seeing a baby girl dressed in white and I also saw myself flying over beautiful green trees on a flying carpet but got scared after seeing a cat sit next to me. He has also once dreamt that we were in a river with a huge fish. Please advice on what should I do?

Answer:

Baby girl, white color, flying high and huge fish all represent you as innocent and precious. Cat here represents thievery and surreptitiousness. It is best to ask for a clear position or else move on and, rather than texting, follow a more open path of communication where Allah will match you with someone who is worth your while.

Prophet Mohammed SAW knowledge of unseen

Question:

Assalamualikum… I want to ask something from you about Islam.. as you know we ahl e sunnat wa jamat believe that the Prophet SAW has the knowledge of “unseen” right? But the hadith of Aayisha RA says in Bukhari Shareef that if someone say Prophet has the knowledge of unseen then he is liar. Please say what is truth… and also we believe that Prophet SAW has seen Allah, right? At isra wal miraj?? But in the same hadith Aisha RA says the same if some one say that the Prophet has seen his lord then he is liar .. Please say what is the ultimate truth please… zajakallah khair...

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,
What our Mother Aisha (r) meant was “Whoever claims that the Prophet has such knowledge independently of Allah.” As for the second issue, the majority of the Sahaba followed the position of Ibn `Abbas that the Prophet (s) did see his Lord. And Allah knows best.
