Confused

Question:

Assalam alikum shaykh,
I have just recently joined this website and mashallah i found it very interesting and very soon inshallah i will take bayah with shaykh nazim in cyprus, Shaykh it would be helpfull if you could answer me this 2 questions kindly jazakallah,

1) I have a lot of doubts keep coming to my mind every time i am reading salat or reciting the Qur’an please can you give me anything to recite because sometimes they can be very bad.

2) I am a big fan of Shaykh ul islam Dr Tahir ul Qadri and like listening to his speeches but some people in the Sunni sect say not to listen to him, please can you tell me your views about him, alhamdulillah i have seen a video with shaykh nazim and shaykh ul islam together on youtube.

Answer:

Wa`alaikumussalam,
I invite you to make your Bay’ah here and be assured.

Whatever it is, remember that doubts are from Shaytan – he wants to play with your mind and shake your beliefs. Ignore these doubts, and always recite A`udhu billahi min ash-shaytani r-Rajim and Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim loves Shaykh Tahir ul-Qadri. They are guardians of the faith and all Sunni authorities recognize them. Anyone who accuses them of any wrongdoing in the name of the religion is party to mischief, and the blame returns to the accuser, who, unless he repents shall bear the weight on his shoulders and shall be answerable to the Almighty on the Day of Reckoning. Enough said.

History of Saints in the Philippines

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Ya Sayyidi Sheikh Nazim.

I am from sibutu island in the Philippines. Islam was brought to the Philippines by a Sheikh named Karim-ul Makhdum. He was an arab who according to some sources originated from Mecca. There was also a band of 7 brothers who rode a ship made of iron (this is amazing because they lived during the medieval ages) and brought Islam here in the Philippines too. They were saints. They performed miracles.

According to some sources they were descendants of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Some even say that Sheikh Makhdum is the leader of those brothers and He was also from Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Sheikh Makhdum used to walk on water, fly, save drowning people. He was a great man. He is now buried in Sibutu. There is a tree beside his grave, a coconut tree. When the coconuts on this tree fall, it doesn’t touch the grave of Sheikh Makhdum, it only falls to the ground around His grave.

He built the first mosque here in the Philippines. He came here at the year 1380. He is a sufi. I want to know Sayyidi what can you say about Sheikh Karim-ul Makhdum? Sayyidi please pray for me and all of the people. We love you Sayyidi.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

May Allah Almighty reward your manners, and forgive mine.

“My Saints are under My domes; no one knows them except me.” The knowledge you seek belongs to the Unseen; you should direct your search to that realm!

Because of this, it is very difficult to approach the history of such a personality, and what little may be understood has been related through the efforts of Dr. Cesar Adib Majul, who I had the good fortune to meet but a few years before his passing. Still, some comments may not be out of place in connection with the appearance of Shaykh Karim al-Makhdum, may Allah sanctify his secret.

To begin with, it is not likely that Islam was brought to the Philippines at such a late date; much more likely, as Dr. Majul has explained, is that upheavals in Guangzhou brought about the arrival of Muslims to the Philippines some five centuries earlier. Since these earliest Muslims in the Philippines would have had a connection to Guangzhou, it is important to remember that this city is the site of a maqam belonging to the emissary of the Holy Prophet to China, Sayyidina Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas – peace be upon them. There is, therefore, a continuity between the expansion of Islam to China and its reaching to the Philippines.

The arrival of the Makhdum heralded a new opening, namely the establishing of Sufi and royal lineages throughout Southeast Asia. Since you mention the Meccan origin claimed for the saint, it is interesting to note that not long before his arrival, the Kazaruni Sufi order had established its authority over sea travel between the central Islamic lands and the Far East, offering safety on the seas by means of the barakah of the founder of this order.

Karim al-Makhdum has been associated with the founding of Malacca; likewise remarkable is the possibility, mentioned by Dr. Majul, that he was the father of Sunan Gunung Jati, one of the renowned “Nine Saints” (Wali Songo) in Indonesia. Be that as it may, it is surely significant that the history of these Nine Saints belongs to nearly the same period, and that some of them at least may be linked to Chinese Islam.

It is apparently not known to which order the Makhdum was affiliated. No doubt the accounts of his wondrous powers may be compared to the heroic stories of the Ghawth al-`Azam that are told throughout Southeast Asia; but given the Meccan origin claimed for him, and the possible family bond, the Sajarah Banten should be considered. According to this source, when Sunan Gunung Jati and his son are in the Hijaz, the son receives initiation into the Naqshbandi order. May Allah sanctify all their secrets!

Indeed, Naqshbandi masters in Arabia would exert a profound influence in the Far East in succeeding centuries, and not only in Indonesia. Ibrahim al-Kurani and his successors – may Allah sanctify their secrets – had authority in multiple orders, but they figure prominently in Naqshbandi lines of transmission that became dominant in China; and it is important to observe that one of the greatest saints in the history of Indonesia – `Abdur-Ra’uf al-Sinkili, may Allah sanctify his secret – likewise took his authority from al-Kurani, even though he is remembered as a master of the Shattari order.

These remarks lead to another no less remarkable observation. In the teachings of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani order, the names of 7 chief companions of the Sahib az-Zaman are known, peace be upon them all, although these names might better be termed “titles.” Among these titles, one appears more like a name: `Abdu-Ra’uf al-Yamani. Given that this great saint of the time of the Mahdi and of Jesus – peace be upon them all – is understood to have authority over China specifically, as well as the fact that the Shattari master who has this very name studied also in the Yemen, it is worth remarking that the bonds between Arabia, China, and Southeast Asia through the Naqshbandi order do not belong solely to the past.

Dream: Frequent dreams about dead people

Dream:

Assalamu alaykum.

My father has been dreaming for many months about dead people – family and friends mostly. It happens once or twice a month. Sometimes somebody dies a day or two after his dream (different person).

On other occasions he dreams of weddings.

Kindly interpret the dreams.

Shukran.

Interpretation:

Alaykum as-Salam,
First dream is a reminder of Akhira and is good, second dream (weddings ) indicates income or rizq, and Allah knows best.

Maqam of Ghawth

Question:

Assalaamualaykum , I have a question related to the spiritual station of Al Ghawthiyya. I was reading that during the time of Shaykh Abdullah Daghistani (ra) He was considered to be the highest ranking Saint by many. But He lived during the same time of a Shaykh by the name of Shaykh Muhammad Ahmad Al Mahi Bukhari (ra) from Madinah Munawwara (originally from sudan). He was also known to be the Highest ranking saint of that same time by many. Is it possible for more than one person to occupy the same station at the same time?

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,
No two saints may co-occupy one station at the same time. There is only one who shall be, and at that time it was Grandshaykh ‘Abdullah al-Fa’iz al-Daghistani. There may however be many saints of very high spiritual rank and known by different names or accolades. In our time however, the Sultan of all Saints is Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani (may Allah gives him long life and happiness!).

Madhab Issue

Question:

I am brought up in a Shafi Madhab environment. I do my level best to keep my wudu at all times. However this becomes difficult for me as I am married and my wife tends to have skin contact with me frequently and due to that I have to keep renewing my Wudu. There is no sexual intent in this skin contact
For a year now I switched to Hanafi Madhab to keep my wudu whenever my wife have skin contact with me but I realize I do not have sufficient knowledge on Hanafi Madhab and I am praying my Asr I based on internet timing as Azan in my country is done following Shafi Madhab.

Kindly advise me as I am concern I am doing something not appropriate. I am afraid I am not EVEN following Hanafi Madhab properly although that is my intention. Thanks

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,
We are advising you to adhere to Shafi Madhab as you know that school of thought already. The Hanafi Madhab is not easy to follow either.

If you have learned a madhab already then the default is that you follow it.

Sahabi Mu’awiya

Salam alaykum dear Shaykh,

Insha’Allah you are being cared for in the Lutf of Allah ta’ala.

What’s the status of the act of saying “rahimahullah” after mentioning
the name of Mu’awiya, in lieu of taraddi, because of not feeling happy
with some of his acts (e.g. Instituting the cursing of Imam Ali from the
manabir), while at the same time wanting to avoid falling under the
warnings against cursing and disparaging any Sahabi…in other words,
taking a “middle ground” so to speak in saying “rahimahullah“?? How does
one answer the objection, “well yes it’s haram to disparage a Sahabi, so
why did Mu’awiya do that with Ali??”

Are the following true:

that Mu’awiya convinced one of the wives of al-Hasan to poison him, or
that he was pleased at the news of his death?

that he dealt in Riba, which is why (as the story goes) some Sahabis
(such as Ubada ibn Samit) refused to live anymore in Syria?

And why in general would some Sahaba go so far as to make talaa’un
against each other, when cursing a Sahabi is zandaqa??

Also, if one states that Ali was more spiritually advanced than Uthman,
(but not more than Abu Bakr and Umar), is that still Sunnism or is it
heretical? Or if the question is asked, what are the proofs and
indications that Uthman was more spiritually advanced than Ali
(radiyallahu ‘anhum jami’an)??

Hopefully you can help shed some light on these questions with convincing
answers. It disturbs me to be honest what I read about some actions of
some Sahabi kiram, such as cursing each other and fighting against
each other and so on.

May Allah’s pleasure be on them all…wa salla Allahu ala sayyidina
Muhammad wa sallam

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam wa rahmatullah,

May this find you well.

We do not say “rahimahullah” after mentioning Prophets or Sahaba but rather “sallallahu…” and “radya Allahu…” respectively. If one deliberately avoids such an invocation then it is to their own detriment. Faint praise here is not a ‘middle ground’ but rather a camouflaged disparagement which shows weak religion.

There is no permission for anyone to “not feeling happy with some of his acts” when it comes to a Sahabi. Rather, each should focus on one’s own acts which do not measure up to a single moment in the life of a Sahabi.

To the objection that “it’s haram to disparage a Sahabi, so why did Mu’awiya do that with Ali??” we reply with our teacher Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s reply (Allah sanctify his soul) which we quoted over a decade ago: “When lions fight, street dogs keep quiet.”  Furthermore, al-Hasan was more aware of Mu`awiya’s words against his father than a million of those objectors, yet he made peace and gave bayaa and respect, which the
Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) himself foretold and commended. Whoever objects to that is a person of fitna camouflaging himself as a person of respect.

As for whatever transgression is attributed to Mu`awiya, Allah be well-pleased with him, the Prophet himself (upon him blessings and peace) declared that it is does not matter at all, since he said that those who fought at Badr and Hunayn are in Paradise, and Mu`awiya fought at Hunayn.

As for the Sahaba’s language with one another, people have no way of understanding the context and even if they did, they are not qualified to put themselves in the shoes of the Sahaba or on a par with them, so any judgment they may wish to cast is from their own waswasa.

Allah Most High chose the Sahaba as Companions for his Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) and they are the first Awliya of this Umma, each and every one of them; disparaging any of them is in fact disparagement of the Prophet and of Allah Most High. That is why the advice of Ahl al-Sunna ulema in this respect is invaluable, and they all said: Protect your own religion by steering clear of that subject.

Disrespect of the Messenger of Allah Salallahu alayhi Wasallam

Question:

Assalamu Alaykum

I pray that you and your family are in the best of health and Imaan Ameen.

May Allah Azawajal sanctify the secret of our blessed Shaykh, Sayidi Wa Murshidi Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Haqqani Al-Rabbani Q.S, and grant them with strong health Ameen.

I am in need of your reply, as its such a sensitive topic and need to try and help some locals InshaAllah.

Recently a well known scholar was addressing the youth and whilst addressing the youth during praising Rasool Alalh Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam he said:

‘and it would be no exaggeration to say that many of the youngsters here could read better than the prophet Salallahu Alayhii Wasallam’

Myself and others felt that the above was very disrespectful and that no one can be compared to the best of creation whether this be his beautiful physical being or his beautiful skills and abilities that were far beyond our knowledge and that he salallahu alayhi wasallam was better than any of the creation by the will and command of Allah azawajal in all aspects and was perfect.

The student of the scholar who made the above statements when he heard my above response, responded by saying that you must prove that disrespect was intended and then went on to say:

‘the issue now returns to what was meant……. (he didn’t mean disrespect and was praising prior to this) (The scholar has responded by saying I have done nothing wrong) and that Imam Razi says in his tafsir that the Messenger is the aqal in terms of literacy- meaning he knew the least- so he says that before this fatwa is put on him they would have to put it on one of the great ulema

He continued to deny that anything wrong was said and that there is no issue.

My response was – When it comes to speaking about Rasool Allah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam then such words that are lowering or disrespectful should be avoided and not even used in the same sentence – even if such words are about something or someone else.

JazakAllah khair Sahykh, May Allah azawajal bless our Sultan ul Awlia Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Q.S and that they recover quickly and gain physical strength asap Ameen.

Your student

Answer:

Alaykum as-Salam,

All the youths and all the elders from the beginning of creation until Resurrection cannot match one breath of the reading of the Prophet upon him blessings and peace. That person is not a scholar but a dall misguided person, his thinking is pure modernism, equating ummi with illiteracy in secular terms, and he understands zero of what Imam Razi said and should not even bring up his name.

Answer:

Wa`alaikumssalam,
Generally, questions like these are mostly intended to stroke your back in one hand while piercing you with a sword in another. In most cases, replying them may only invite more calumny and aspersions.

If he intends goodness for himself, then you may answer just the first question – “yes, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim is alive and well, and you should go to Cyprus to see him. Perhaps there you may find the answers to the rest of your questions.”

If not, better avoid vain effrontery and useless debates. You should do as Allah Almighty commands,

قًََُْل الله وَذَرْهُمْ فِي خَوْضِهِمْ يَلْعَبُونَ
qul Allah wa dharhum fee khawdihim yal`aboon.

Say “Allah,” then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. (Surah al-An`am, 6:91)
