Sayf ibn Umar Al Tamimi and reliability

Question:

Assalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu

This is a question for Shaykh GF Haddad in regards to a reply he gave to someone awhile back who asked about the reliability of Sayf ibn Umar Al Tamimi’s historical narrations. The Shaykh argued that Sayf is considered to be immensely reliable when it comes to historical narrations, but not so reliable when it comes to hadiths. Now my question is that, if we accept that Sayf himself was reliable in historical narrations, does that mean that we can accept every single historical narration of his as being reliable? Or we do still have to analyze the narrators that exist in his chains of narration? In other words, is the statement “Sayf ibn Umar Al Tamimi was a reliable historian” an implication that every historical narration of his is supposed to be taken as reliable?

Fi Amaanillah

Answer:

`Alaykum salam,
The answer is no, it is just a caution not to throw out the window everything he transmits. See for rxample how much of what he transmits is confirmed by Ibn Abi Shayba and Ibn Hibban in their Sira works, or cited approvingly by Ibn Sayyid al-Nas or Dhahabi or Mughultay in their Siras or Ibn Hajar in the Isaba. There is a modern strictist school in Sira writing and there is a laxist school. I believe the great Sira scholars possessed the flair and expertise to always tread a middle path between the two so as not to throw out the baby with the bath water.

Dream: Diabetic mother eating

Dream:

salams,

I dreamed of my mother who passed away 8 months ago.  She and I were together and she wanted to eat banana bread and asked to have it with milk. She was concerned about it not being too sweet claiming that her sugar level was high (due to diabetes).  We were then sitting together and eating when two people who happened to be Egyptians were clearing the table and took away her food before she could finish it.  She was upset that they did not let her finish her food. I would really like to know what the interpretation is and appreciate your support.

Thanks for your support and love and salaams to Mawlana.

Interpretation:

`Alaykum salam,

Milk and bread are fitra and humbleness characterizing Awliya and their
blessings. Sickness and bad adab is Pharaonic behavior around Awliya.
Give sadaqa and make du`a and dhikr on her behalf, she will receive it
and be happy insha-Allah.

Importance of Friday

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum,
My daughter asked me this morning about the importance of Friday. I explained to her that the congregational prayer is on Fridays and that Friday nights (i.e. Thursdays after Maghrib) are a good time to make du’a. I know that there are other significant events that happened on Friday, and was hoping one of the esteemed members of the eshaykh team could educate us about them. Thank you so much for this amazing service that you provide to the Muslim ummah through eshaykh. We are so grateful for the access to those whom Allah Ta’ala has blessed with knowledge of Islam and who follow the Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (s). We pray for the long life and good health of those affiliated with eshaykh.

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,

Imam as-Suyuti compiled the best monograph on the importance of the day of Jumu`a to our knowledge, entitled Nur al-Lum`a fi Khasa’is Yawm al-Jum`a. In it he listed 230 special characteristics (khasa’is) of that day. Its Arabic edition is attached in PDF format and also downloadable from http://www.aslein.net/showthread.php?t=11279&page=1.

Short of a translation of that remarkable work the following brief synopses might be of use:

Dream: Weird Dreams

Dream:

Asalamu Alaikum,

Lately I have been having some weird dreams either after Zikr or after praying Istikhara about divorcing my husband. In one dream there were some Sufi Whirling Dervishes in white next to me and my husband was bullying me. In another I was walking through a village with some people and suddenly found myself on a college stage educating people and then I burst out dancing. Ever since I became a Muslim 3 years ago I have always had nightmares if I have dreamed at all of being chased, and I just want this to stop! What do all of these things mean?

JazakAllah Kheir

Interpretation:

`Alaykum as-Salam,
You fold up a lot of subtext that your main question appears not to address; but just pray two raka`ats before sleep whenever possible, or send 100 salawat to the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace). Insha-Allah it will get better, especially if you have already taken bay`a with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim.

What is the majority view?

Question:

Assalamu Alaikum,

In the Subcontinent many Muslims follow the scholarly opinion of Imam Ahmed Raza (RA) that Deobandis and Wahhabis are apostate unbelievers. Therefore, they do not meet them, pray behind them, etc. What is the view of other Ahl al-Sunna scholars regarding the Wahhabis in particular? For example, what did Allama Shami (RA) say about them in his famous book on Hanafi fiqh? Did he declare them kafirs? What was the opinion of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ja’far al-Kattani (RA) on this issue? Is it absolutely necessary to declare another Muslim’s disbelief or make takfir of him? May one remain silent, think well of that Muslim, meet him, pray for him, and wish him well in this life and the next?

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,
Of course one may remain silent and that is the best course for 99.99% of the Ummah. “Whoever stays silent is safe” (hadith). Dr. Muhammad Sa`id Ramadan al-Buti said in his book on Islamic belief (Kubra al-Yaqinat al-Kawniyya) that if a Muslim spends his entire life not cursing Shaytan even once, he will be safe; but if he curses the wrong person even once in his life he may jeopardize his own soul.

Battle of Badr

Question:

Assalamualaikum beloved Mawlana and eshaykh team

Can you teach us about the Battle of Badr? Thank you.

Can you also consider maybe doing weekly postings teaching us about Prophet’s (s) life or general information on fiqh or syariah? Anything that can help us learn more about our religion. Thank you for this wonderful site!

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,
On Badr read Surat al-Anfal which Ibn `Abbas called the Sura of Badr.
Then read the chapter on Badr in Martin Lings’s Life of the Prophet (upon him
blessings and peace). Look for the entry ‘Badr‘ in the forthcoming first volume of the
“Integrated Encyclopedia of Qur’an”.
Thank you for your suggestions.

Dream: Seeing Mawlana after feeling abandoned

Dream:

salams. I want only Shaykh Jibril haddad to answer my issue!
I felt Sh. Nazim let me go permanantly, because I went in and out of this tariqa giving up, and  going to other shaykhs. I did the awrad and zikrs – got no benefit!! I decided I’m leaving for good! I saw Sh. Nazim in a dream where I took bay’ah and he gave me a taweez which had different colors on it. After that dream, I still felt no maddad. I decided I’m not returning to this tariqa again!! Days later  I see Sh. Nazim in a dream. I’m with him. I ask can I give bay’ah? He smiled saying “not necessary.”  Then he sat on the ground on the knees. I gave bay’ah to him sitting behind him. We were in Sh. Hisham’s house. Then I held his arm assisting him going towards upstairs. What does this mean?

Interpretation:

`Alaykum salam,

It means he is lifting you up willy-nilly whether you feel it or not. All we know is the road feels long so we huff and puff; we are “colored” by our shifting with every wind like a weather vane but they are not like us so don’t worry, the patient does not have to understand how the medicine works or even feel it working. It is working insha-Allah.

Dream: The night after miraj

Dream:

Salaam, this is from my sister-in-law’s cousin who would like an interpretation. She stayed up and prayed on the night of miraj nafls, fasted the day then had a dream that there was a big boat on the sky, on a new planet. She asked her mum who the lady was. Her mum said this is our Nabi’s wife. They spoke to her telling her that there was space on the boat but you have passed away; let me get permission from my house people. Permission was granted, Nabi’s wife had a black scarf and fair skin, When on the boat, she saw lots of animals. She had her own room but saw a lady stealing her money but she caught her.

Interpretation:

Salam `alaykum,
Plane and boat indicate travel. Mention of the Prophet’s family (upon him and them blessings and peace) in the dream is an excellent sign. Animals on the boat are like the ark of Prophet Nuh (upon him peace) which stands for the Sunnah, because you have revived it by praying at night and fasting. Theft is goodness insha-Allah, or jealousy on someone’s part toward you, and Allah knows best.
