Hadith

Question:

Salamu alaykoum, I would like to know if this hadith is reliable or not..

《إِذَا تَوَضَّأْتُمْ أَوْ لَبِسْتُمْ فَابْدَؤُوا بِمَيَامِنِكُمْ》

May Allah bless you

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

Yes, it is in the Sunan and both al-Nawawi and Ibn Hajar agree on its reliability. Besides it is established that the Prophet (s) loved to begin all important acts with the right or the right side.

Benefits of Bayah, loyalty, and may I leave if I do not find myself loyal and in love? Plus can I have practices of another Tariqah?

Question:

What are the benefits of giving Bayah, and I want my loyalty to be true and that of love and strength, and wisdom. If I do not fall in love with the Naqshbandi Tariqah, may I leave? I would probably join Mevlevi and can I have practices of another Tariqah.

Answer:

Salamu Alaikum

It is not compulsory for anyone to take bayat with a shaykh. But the benefits of taking a Sufi shaykh are too numerous to mention. The most important being that if a person wishes to reach the highest levels of iman (faith) and closeness to Allah Almighty, the level of ihsan (excellence) as described by the Prophet (pbuh) that is impossible without a Sufi guide/murshid.

It is best to take the guide who your heart most feels comfortable with and to submit wholeheartedly to that Shaykh. If one is doubting his/her Shaykh, then the benefit will be minimal. It is like someone who boards a train, but gets off at every station to check other trains or to look around at where other people are going. That person may finally reach their destination but it will take a very very long time and will never be satisfied. It is best and most efficient to decide on the path you are taking and stick firmly to it.

If your heart is not comfortable with a particular shaykh or tariqah, then maybe you are not ready yet to commit.

And Allah and His Prophet know best.

Dhikr beads 10 or 11, small bracelet sized..

Question:

I don’t remember how I got it, I think it was wooden, I am not sure about the string, but I think I put it around my wrist and I made the intention to make dhikr with it..

It was good, because it made dhikr easy.. and I could carry it everywhere almost.

Answer:

BismiLlahi Rahmani Raheem, wa salatuLlahi wa salaamu ala Khairul’ khalqi’Llah, Sayyiddina Muhammad, wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wa salaam.

If this was a dream, then it may mean you need to give more attention to your zikr, inshaAllah. You intended to do it, but you may have gotten distracted and neglected to complete it.

If this happened while you were awake, in other words if you lost the beads, then Hajja Naziha, may Allah bless her, used to say to us to recite 3 times Surah Kawthar, and 3 times “Ya Hadi!” Then read Fatiha for your Shaykh. The lost object will come back in a familiar place, inshaAllah. Many people reported success using this method, and Allah knows best. Again salaam!

help

Question:

How to call for help from gous e azam & Shah e Naqsband?

Answer:

Salaam,
After Bismillahi Rahmani Raheem, and salat `ala Nabiyy; I must say that it’s difficult to answer your question without knowing you and your situation. Maulana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah ta’ala sanctify his holy secret, told me that the best Adab (good manner) for a mureed, or a seeker after truth, is to ask spiritual help, or ‘madad‘ from the one closest to himself on the chain. It is better to ask from your shaykh, with whom you have a relation, than to try to jump to famous figures, such as Shah Naqshband or Abdul Qadr Gilani, whom you don’t know. You might put yourself into a test, unwittingly, by asking something over your level and beyond your understanding.

Also, our ‘niyyat‘ – our intentions – are of crucial importance. Allah knows the secrets of hearts and why we ask what we ask, and Maulana Shaykh Hisham, may Allah ta’ala bless him, calls awliyah’Allah,”the spies of hearts”! They have been given from the Lord an ability to know what our real motives might be! So be careful! It is prohibited, for example, to use the shaykh for a worldly benefit, or to use his name to make ourselves important in front of people (or even secretly to ourselves!), or to take revenge on our enemies, or to show miracles, and so on.

Maulana Shaykh Hisham, may Allah ta’ala bless him, said, “It’s the duty of the shaykh to take his mureed to the presence (reality) of the Prophet, sallaLlahu alayhi wa salaam, and then to withdraw himself.” He will train that mureed in all the good manners and characteristics he will need to be admitted to that Holy Presence, salawatu’Llahi wa salaamuhu alayhi. If, in the unlikely event that it should become necessary to seek the intervention of another personality, the shaykh will handle the matter himself, or inform the mureed if something more needs to be understood or acted upon.

An exception is made, insh’Allah, only if the mureed is not in possession of his senses – intoxicated, ‘drunk’ with his Lord’s love – or in extreme danger or emergency. Then, call whom you like, and Allah knows best, and better, wa Rasoul, sallaLahu alayhi wa salaam.

Thank you for your question. Again, salaam!

Strength to remain consistent

Question:

I want to be consistent, that is, whenever I start something, I remain loyal for some days and then that determination slowly starts getting thin, and after few weeks I am again at zero. Before its too late, I want to solve this serious problem.

Answer:

Salaam,
I am watching myself to see if I am consistent! And there are examiners watching me also, to see if I am consistent! When they certify that I reached consistency, then I can advise you. Until then, we are all ‘waiting at the door’. How will it be when that door is suddenly opened? In what state will we be found? Maulana Shaykh Nazim – may Allah sanctify his holy secret – used to say that, “This world is between the horns of a bull (tossed to and fro) and that bull is standing on a rock. That rock sits on the back of a whale, and that whale is swimming in an ocean. That ocean is in the power of Allah! Everything must have a base!” May Allah make you persevere on His path, and to reach a heavenly support that will carry you onwards despite everything that may confront you. For the sake of Prophet sallaLahu alayhi wa salaam, and for the sake of Holy Ramadan, may he be happy with you and me and everyone who tries to make Holy Ramadan happy with them! Shukran for your question, and once again salaam.

What is the punishment of neglecting or discouraging dua

Question:

A greedy/jealous person discourages someone to make dua from less to none. Or not asking Allah at all.

Answer:

Salaam,
May Allah ta’ala increase both of you in goodness, for the sake of Prophet sallaLahu alayhi wa salaam, for the sake of Maulana Shaykh, Allah bless him, and for the sake of Holy Ramadan, in which the first part is mercy, the second is forgiveness, and the last third is safety from hellfire. The best du’a is made in secret – no one knows about it except the Lord. Shuck ran for your question, and again salaam!
