Calling another shaykh “Mawlana”

Question:

Rabiul Awwal Mubarak, May Allah give you good health and happiness.

Please advise me what should I say, when someone complaining when I call Syekh Hisyam with Maulana Syekh Hisyam. He complaint that Maulana is only Maulana Syekh Nazim. I understand Maulana is Maulana syekh Nazim. I really upset with this guy, this guy is singaporian and wanna write for him. Please tell me what to say.

Salam,

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,

Mawlana means “our mawla.” In the Arabic language mawla is applied to any blood relative, cousin, neighbor, helper, defender, ally, leader, freed slave, and the person who frees his slave. It is also a Divine Name, in which sense it is applied to Allah alone (Q 2:286, 3:150, 8:40). But in the first senses it can be applied to many different kinds of people, including a mosque imam or a Qur’an teacher, not only in the Arab world but also in Southeast Asia.

Sultan al-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (may his secret be sanctified) is closer to us than our blood relatives, he is also our greatest helper, defender, ally, leader, and the one who frees us by the grace of Allah from the slavery of sin and hellfire, since he is the inheritor of the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) in our time; and as Mawlana’s son-in-law, representative and khalifa, Shaykh Hisham is an inheritor of those qualities, only one of which is enough reason for us to call him our Mawla; although it does not give him enough credit to call him Mawlana for he is much more, and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim is much more.

Al-Hasan al-Basri said: “When you leave your house in the morning, whoever you see for the rest of the day tell yourself they are better than you.” That means they are all your Mawlana. In our Tariqah we are told to consider anyone we see to be possibly al-Khidr `alayhis-salam! So we should be very careful what we say and we should never fall into the trap of giving anyone less respect than they deserve. The Holy Prophet (upon him blesings and peace) said: “Truly a man shall utter a word which he thinks of little consequence, then fall headlong because of it for a distance of seventy years” (Tirmidhi); meaning, they will be blocked from Tawfiq for the rest of their lives – we seek refuge in Allah from such a fate!

But there is never any harm in giving more and more respect, on the contrary, it shows humbleness and iman.

Yet, even if we called Mawlana Shaykh Nazim with the greatest titles 24/7 exclusively, it does not add anything to his status because only Allah and His Prophet and His Prophet’s inheritors truly know Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s status; similarly, if we call everyone else “Mawlana” it does not detract one iota from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s status. He does not need us one bit. Showing respect is not for his advantage, but for the good of our souls, and he asks for respect in the deeds of our lives and the sincerity of our hearts, not in formalities or pedantry.

We seek refuge and ask protection from Allah Most High on behalf of Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (may his soul be sanctified and his levels be raised always), from the avarice of our souls and from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Guidance

Question:

Guidance: There are different factors that are pulling me in different directions.
1) That there was a prospective sister to marry to which I was given candid responses from listening to Sultan ul-Awliya’s sohbet, the picture of Sultan ul-Awliya (qa) and an honoured Senior Muriid giving strong negative responses for.
2) My own inclination to accept, which was very very strong, and to honour her request.
3) A response from an eshaykh question, alhamdulillah, after I rejected the opportunity and experiencing distress (ego kickback) saying to go and look for her again as she was a reward.
I understand that the first experience pointed to that a better or more suitable one, a spiritual one. What should I do?
Should I go to Lefke and try to marry? Is there guidance that you can give for me? Thankyou.

Answer:

Why not do istikhara according to how our mashaykh teach and follow the guidance that comes?

Non Muslim cannot accept Islam because of his Sins.

Question:

Asalam ulakum,

Some months ago a non-Muslim man who works with me came to me asking about Islam. I am a Muslimah. Nearly every other day he comes to my office in front the department wants to know certain things about Islam I calmly answer and then he walks away to come back again to know more.

He has admitted today, 24 years ago when he was with girl of a different colour, his parents didn’t accept that she was pregnant with his child as she was of a different race. He then asked her to terminate it as he didn’t want the child to suffer abuse from his parents all her life. He has regretted his decision and asks for forgiveness everyday for the past 24 years and does not believe he will ever forgive himself let alone Allah or the child forgiving him.

Please can you advise?

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Sayyidina `Umar (r), the second Caliph of Rasulullah (s), used to weep remembering how he buried one of his daughters in his days before entering Islam. Yet he was given glad tidings of Paradise, for his heart so changed upon entering Islam, that our Holy Prophet (s) said of him, “if there were to be another Prophet after me it would have been`Umar.” So let him not be overwrought for a sin, for as our Shuyukh teach, al-Islam yajib ma qablaha, entering Islam clears all sins, and entering Islam will clear that one and he will be as if a newborn child, insha-Allah. Allah said:

{Say: “O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah. for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.} (Surat az-Zumar, 39:53)

Dream: Dream with my virtual female friend

Dream:

Assalamu wa alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu’

A sister in Islam, which I know only a few years the Internet has had a dream with me that she arrived at the former place she lived there and met me and hugged me, she wears hijab but the dream was no hijab, ya Shaykh! could you explain this dream? For I have heard it from her and was very happy despite never having played it I was very happy she had dreamed of me.

Allah Razi Olsun ya Mawlana Shaykh!

Interpretation:

wa `alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakutuh,

You and your friend are connected from the World of Souls, `alam al-arwah, and have a “real” friendship there, as opposed to a virtual one. Not wearing hijab is due to your spiritual closeness. And this may be an indication that you should marry her, if you are not.

And Allah knows best its interpretation,

Dream: Bad vision of sister

Dream:

I am a young sister who has been on a journey to learn more about Islam. Although I have not done my shahadah or bayat I am content with what I have learned so far. The other night I had a vision in my sleep I saw my older sisters dead body in a bag, it was decayed and really scared me. It seemed as though she was in a compartment of the bag though. Like a small pocket within a larger handbag. I woke up breathing very heavy. She is my only sister and out my family im the only one who looks into islam. Please do dua for me and my family that we can all learn and be guided to the truth. Thank you

Interpretation:

Your holding back from entering into the way of Allah fully, by taking shahada, is breaking your soul’s heart and killing it, represented here by your sister. On the other hand, moving forward with the right step, will revive your soul and the souls of all your family, insha-Allah.

Dream: A Massacre

Dream:

Assalaam Alaykom

My dream was this, several old friends I had nearly forgotten about returned to my life and were very kind. We got along very well and they arranged to hold a party. I went to the party and it was wonderful, until they turned on me and all pulled out knives. They began killing the other people and I had to fight them. I tried to reason with them, put they were so awash in hatred and spite they wouldn’t listen. I killed them all, but the dream didn’t end. They would return as specters on fire, screaming at me about how much they hated me.

Interpretation:

wa `alaykum salam,

Alhamdulillah, that is a very good dream because it signifies you fighting your four spiritual enemies, as we are informed by our mashaykh: nafs (ego), dunya (love of this world), hawa (lustful desires) and shaytan. They hate you because you are fighting them very hard by your persistence on the Straight Path, and that is the Jihad al-akbar. Congratulations and keep to what you know is right.

to be answered by syyedi sheikh hisham only

Question:

Assalam u alayekum sheikh hisham!
i believe that on this forum, only you can rectify the misconception posted here about ghazwatul hind.
I had asked about ghazwatul hind some months ago in response to which hajj gibril replied that the event has actually taken place.the other day i met a naqshybandi brother and we were talking about this event.when i told him hajj gibril’s opinion (without mentioning his name) he said that how can it be possible that such a great and significant event has taken place and not even a single person mentioned it.(and i myself wonder that if any saint of sub-continent mentioned it !!!!! no one has discussed that it ha taken place)
many of us who live in sub-continent are living on the hope that we’ll inshaAllah fight against kufr in this great event.
please clearify this.
am i right syyedi?

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham requested that I answer this question again, which bears on the understanding of the hadith mentioned in the Post “Ghazwatul Hind“. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (Allah sanctify their souls) always stresses that we should study history, hence the importance of such information and of correcting the real misconceptions. In sha Allah this will be the last post on this issue.

It has been mentioned by many authorities that the raid (ghazwat) on India referred to in the hadiths of Ghazwat al-Hind (another narration in Musnad Ahmad says “Hind and Sind”) already took place many times:

– in the caliphate of Sayyidina Mu`awiya (Allah be well-pleased with him) in the Hijri year 44 as stated by Ibn Kathir in al-Bidaya;

– in the caliphate of al-Walid b. `Abd al-Malik b. Marwan (see on him  the Post “12 Imams?“), under the great general Muhammad b. Qasim al-Thaqafi (see Yaqut al-Hamawi in Mu`jam al-Buldan, article Multan) who conquered Sind for the Umayyads at the age of 17.

– during the Ghaznawi sultanate founded by the Turkish Afghan-born Sultan Nasiruddin Abu Mansur Sebüktigin (330-387/942-997) and his son Sultan Mahmud b. Sebüktigin Ghaznawi (361-421/971-1030) who seized and raided Northern India constantly, and waged about 400 military campaigns there, also as related by Ibn Kathir in the Bidaya, Ibn al-Athir al-Jazari in al-Kamil fil-Tarikh, and Ibn Khallikan in Wafayat al-A`yan. Mahmud Ghaznawi is the one whom history credits for first conquering India, as stated by Ibn Battuta in his Rihla. The breadth of his conquests has been compared to that of Sayyidina `Umar b. al-Khattab (Allah be well-pleased with him).

– Then the following dynasty, the Ghuris, ruled over all of India beginning with their first conqueror Shihab al-Din Muhammad b. Salim b. al-Husayn al-Ghuri, and their sultans assumed the title of King of India. His freedman Qutbuddin Aybak was the first Muslim king of Delhi in the 540s.

These were all Muslim kings (beginning with Mu`awiya) who waged not one, but hundreds of campaigns against kufr in India and they more than deserve candidacy for reaping the honor of that Prophetic hadith, and Allah knows best.

This is all well-known to the scholars and historians of that region from Firishta (967-1029/1560-1620) in his Persian chronicle translated as “History of Muslim Power in India” to Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi in his Maktubat and anyone that has a sense of Islamic history in the Indian Subcontinent. For about nine centuries most of India was under Muslim rule, from the time of those Muslim rulers until the British invasion (1877 CE). It is more than strange – and indeed a sign of the Last Days – that an educated Muslim could live there today and imagine that such a conquest and rule have never yet taken place!

Yes, it is possible that, by analogy with the hadith of the conquest of Constantinople, the hadith on the raid on India points to events that take place more than once and therefore could take place again in our future, despite both events (India and Constantinople) having already taken place in the past. However, it is not acceptable to deny that they already took place once, which would be tantamount to saying that the Muslim Kings never took India or that Sultan Muhammad Fatih (Allah have mercy on all of them) never took Constantinople.

Furthermore, no scholar has mentioned the raid on India as one of the signs of the Hour and it would also be a mistake to put on a par the two parts of the hadith (the raid on India and the emergence of `Isa upon him peace): the raid on India is a minor sign that occurred early as did several other raids (on Syria, Iraq, Persia, Egypt, Constantinople…) while the appearance of Sayyidina `Isa (upon him peace) is a major sign that occurs once, just before the Hour. This is why al-Saffarini in his book Lawami` al-Anwar al-Bahiyya implied that this hadith points to two events that are respectively at the beginning and at the end of this Ummah, by comparing it to the famous hadith “The similitude of this Ummah is as the rain: no-one knows whether its greater goodness will be at its end or at its beginning.” Another such hadith is “No Ummah will perish that has me at its beginning and `Isa b. Maryam at its end.” And Allah knows best.
