Following Fuqaha Outside of the Tareeqah

Question:

Assalamualaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

I have not made Bayat yet, but am interested. My main reservation is whether or not we are allowed to follow fuqaha who do not follow the Shaykh. I am following the Shafi’i madhhab and am following a specific faqih on many issues, but he does not follow the Shaykh. Can we follow a Faqih whose positions on legal issues (not on tassawuf nor ibadat) may differ from the Shaykh even if the daleel of the Faqih is stronger? What if the positions of the Faqih does not contradict the rulings of the Shaykh, can we then follow the rulings of the Faqih as well as the Shaykh? Since I’m still new to learning about the Tareeqah I do not know if Shaykh Nazim issues many fatawa and thus if this is a relevant question. Jazak Allah Khair

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

Evidently we are allowed since Mawlana Shaykh Nazim followed the Hanafi madhhab in most issues for as far as we and our elders have known–even though his shaykh in Tariqa, Mawlana Grandshaykh, was Shafii. (Granted, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim does recite the Basmala aloud and he also recites qunut in the Fajr prayer; but in most issues he typically follows Hanafi practice.)

The “strength of the dalil” is often a conjectural matter and you yourself may see the same dalil with different eyes one or five or ten years down the road. In actual practice also, leeway and difference of opinion are part of the knowledge of both fiqh and tasawwuf. Therefore, as Mawlana and your teacher would both want you to, keep an open mind
and keep learning and practicing to your best ability.

I empathize with hearing about your difficulties. Look for charitable works to do, help someone, pray for people, make tasbih and zikr Lailaha illaAllah and Salawat, seeing your self in Ka’aba Shareef and Rawda Shareef.

Dream: Dark Clouds in the dream

Dream:

Asalamualaikum,

aozu billahi minash shaitan ir rajeem.
Bismiallah ar rahman’nir raheem

I had a dream in which suddenly dark clouds came over my house and I got scared. Had a feeling its like day of judgement or something. Immediately I went to perform wudu to recite durood. Then later there was a shower of salt which I felt in hand and was relax and happy.

Did not understand what this dream interprets. Please suggest me something to recite.

JazakAllah

As Salaam Alaikum,

As the dream indicates, keeping wudu and darood shareef, is purifying you and giving you calm and satisfaction in the face of challenging conditions. Keep Salawat 100x or more a day consistently.

Prayer Request: permission granted or not

Request:

Assalam Alaykoum,

My name is [private] and my mothers name is [private]. I am 35. Recently I was introduced to a girl called [private] and her mothers name is [private]. She is only 20 and very beautiful. She showed interest in me and so did I. However, her uncle and aunt told me not to go ahead with her as her manners are not good and she did not study a lot at school. This was enough to discourage my parents. She keeps coming in my thoughts and I wanted to ask you whether you can perform an istikaarah and ask Mowlana Shaik Nazim (Q) whether to go ahead with her or not.

JazakAllah

Response:

Alaykum Salam,

What they did not tell you may be even worse than what they already told you; so follow their advice, as the good pleasure of parents is the good pleasure of Allah, and He is the One Who inspired them to give you this advice. Ask for a better match for yourself and in sha Allah it will happen.

Prayer Request: To set someone on the Right path

Request:

I am a Syed and write to you in the hope that as a learned Islamic scholar, you can provide advice and guidance. Its a Muslim’s job to pray, and up to Allah which prayer is answered. Please keep the details of this request private. I have a brother who has been involved with a Non Muslim girl. This girl is not interested in adjusting to an Eastern or Muslim way of life and is leading my brother astray onto the wrong path. She will not marry him because she knows she will have to conform to our way of life but she won’t leave me either and let him get on with his life. Her enticement is greed, money. We are respectable people and cannot support a haram way of life. And inshallah, if things work out well, I will be happy to offer whatever donation I can afford.

Response:

Speak to your brother to the same effect because he is the one who will benefit from your assessment, but inject some mercy for all concerned into the latter, and no one knows what good the future holds. Remember even Sayyidina Yusuf, upon him peace, said — to teach us humbleness:

وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلاَّ مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّيَ إِنَّ رَبِّي غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

“Nor do I absolve my own self (of blame): the (human) soul is certainly prone to evil, unless my Lord do bestow His Mercy: but surely my Lord is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat Yusuf, 12:53)

min al-kabair

Question:

Salam ‘alaykum Shaykh Gibril,

In Adab al-Mufrad, the hadith from ibn Sayyidina ‘Umar (r) on the Kabair,
he mentions one as وَالَّذِي يَسْتَسْخِرُ translated as “scoffing”. Can you clarify the meaning?

http://sunnah.com/adab/1
بَابُ لِينِ الْكَلاَمِ لِوَالِدَيْهِ

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,

They are those meant in Surat al-Saaffaat (37) verse 14, mocking Allah and the Prophet when they see a miracle like the splitting of the moon, or (in our time) are told about it:

وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ

But other, less authoritative versions of the same hadith have يستحسر “to despair” and يستسحر “to resort to witchcraft” (see here, note 20).

So plz do clear  Sheykh Sahab about this zikr, when I can start, how much tasbih should I read. I am a beginner and I do not know anything. Plz help me Sheykh Sahab.
I am very thankful to you.
Assalamoalaikum

Answer:

Walaikumas salam wa Rahmatullahi
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

InshaAllah Mawlana Shaykh Hisham is praying for you. Usually Mawlana says to recite 70 times to 100 times for tasbih such as “Ya Wadood“. Try going to bed with Wudu and go to bed early. Put an alarm away from your bed. Recite the below 70x or 100x:

Ya Hannan, Ya Mannan
Ya Dayyan, Ya Subhan
Ya Sultan, Ya Allah

Problems in my path! Help!

Question:

Assalam-o-Alaikum!
I am 14 year old and the mureed of Shaykh Banaras Owaisi. I liven in lahore, Pakistan, while he is from Jammu Kashmir and lives in Birmingham. My famliy is not a supporter of sufism and they don’t even want me to be in it. That is why i am unable to reach him Whenever i try to perform muraqaba, the kept sneaking at me as they don’t find it right, the keep disturbing me and i am unable to reach the drifting state and my muraqaba never succeeds. I never receive a little vision even. I am a lot tangled in these situation. Help! Jazak-Allah!

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,

Do muraqaba late at night, before morning, before or after salat and at any other times when you would be left undisturbed. Successful muraqaba is not based on visions or extraordinary states but on sincerity. Ask for Allah and do not associate your desires for results with simple sincerity to Him.
