Imam Shafii’s tabarruk with the shirt of Imam Ahmed

Question:

Is the report on Imam Shafii seeking tabarruk with the shirt of Imam Ahmed authentic? This report was said to be mentioned in Manaqib Imam Ahmed of Ibn al Jawzi and Tarikh dimashq of Ibn `Asakair.

Moreover, there is a opposite report said to be mentioned in the first chapter of the book Al-usûl al-arba’a fî tardîd al-Wahhâbiyya, where it says :

“Imâm Ahmad ibn Hanbal put al-Imâm ash-Shâfi’î’s (rahmatullâhi ta’âlâ ’aleyh) shirt into water and drank the water to get blessings.”

Is this second report (where it is Imam Ahmed who seeks tabarruk) mistaken?

Answer:

Ibn al-Jawzi considered it authentic, al-Dhahabi not, and Allah knows best. There is no basis for the report that the act was done by Imam Ahmad with Imam al-Shafi`i’s shirt. Rather, the reports mention it was al-Shafi`i with Ahmad’s shirt, after the ordeal of the latter at the hands of the Mu`tazili government and Allah knows best.

Hadith from Naqshbandi.org

Question:

As salamu alaykum,

I read this hadith on Naqshbandi.org:
It is narrated in Sharhus Sudoor by al-Imam al-Suyuti that Nabi Muhammad (s) said that when you visit the graveyard, you should read Suratul-Ikhlas, Suratut-Takathur and Suratul-Fatiha, and present the reward of the recitations as a gift to the inhabitants of the graves. Nabi Muhammad (s) explains that these souls will then make du’a for you, asking Allah (swt) to forgive you and bless you.

Can you please give this hadith with the exact wordings and complete with reference. I would like to study it.

jazakallah

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

It is found here:

The correct translation is “These souls will intercede for you to Allah Most High.” Suyuti’s source is the Fawa’id of Abu al-Qasim Sa`d b. `Ali al-Zanjani (d. 471), from Abu Hurayra.
The wording is:

Fazila with Names of Allah Azawajjal

Question:

Assalamu wa ‘alaykum Shuyukh,

I ask, was the mosque with a Moulana and then deliver books about zikr with names of Allah Azawajjal, the Moulana does not speak our language and tried to explain it but we did not quite understand his answer. Then I would like to ask you about some dhikrs and wazifah recommended by Awliyah and Ulama, for example, eg 33 times ya Maliku, 21 ya Alimu , ya Qaharu, where did these numbers and these repetitions with the names of Allah Azawajjal. I’m not convinced about that question, but many here ask me about it and would like to have an answer for this.

Even a very boring event happened in a Wahabi mosque Shaykh said that we could not distribute books about it in the mosque for not Dalil and that he abandoned the path of Tasawwuf that his father went on that account.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

There is no harm in repeating the Holy Names of Allah Most High for a good and spiritual reason, not for dunya, under the guidance of an authorized teacher. As for those who do not accept it they are free and we are not responsible for them nor are they responsible for us.

Dream:

Applied to enroll for a pilot training where I had to do a test which is valid for 1 year. Unfortunately I failed but I have the opportunity to do it after 1 year. Therefore I did istakhara if I should re-enrol or not. Had a dream where I  was laughing with the interviewer (from the flying school during enrolment) a woman came in telling me test are not valid but the interviewer said he will sort it out and thus told me test are valid and everything is sorted and I was happy.

Mount Qaf

Question:

I want to know about the Mount Qaf. Please tell me extensive detail about it.

Answer:

Ibn Abi al-Dunya and Abu al-Shaykh narrated from Ibn `Abbas (Allah be well-pleased with him): “Allah has created a mountain called Qaf which surrounds the world, and whose roots stem from the rock on which the earth rests. Whenever Allah wants to shake a town He orders that mountain to shake the root that belongs to that town. That is why  earthquakes occur in some places exclusively of others.”

Ibn al-Mundhir, Abu al-Shaykh in al-Azhama, al-Hakim and Ibn Marduyah all related from `Abd Allah b. Burayda in exegesis of {Qaf} (50:1): “It is a mountain of emerald surrounding the world, on which rest the two sides of the sky.”

Imam al-Suyuti mentions in al-Durr al-Manthur, that `Abd al-Razzaq narrated from Mujahid: “Qaf is a mountain surrounding the world.”

Imam al-Baghawi mentioned in his Tafsir Ma`alim al-Tanzil from `Ikrima and al-Dahhak: “Qaf is a mountain of green emerald surrounding the world the way a wall surrounds a garden. The sky’s sides rest over it, hence its blue color.”

Others such as Ibn Kathir and al-Alusi rejected the above reports as inauthentic or Israelite stories. And Allah knows best.

Dream: Baiyyath

Dream:

I had a dream in that, the great Muhieddeen Abdul Qadir of Jilani gave me baiyyath. Afterwards same year on the 1st of Dhul Hajj, in my mid-day nap our beloved Rasool e Kareem sallallahu alaihi wa sallam gave me baiyyath, promising many things. Also on my request they gave me their spit with howlal kauser water and I drank it, alhamdulillah. Also in one my recent dreams Seyyidathina Fathima az-Zahra radiyallahu anha, gave me a respected hair taken from their hand to keep with me, as a blessing. There are many more dreams but I’m unable to describe cause only 1 paragraph allowed. Please tell me the meanings of my dreams, jazakallahu khair!

Interpretation:

Audhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm:

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham said about the endless honor to see Prophet (ṣall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a dream: “Seeing the Prophet (ṣall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a dream means you will be relieved from seven difficulties in dunya and in akhirah. Also, Imam Suyuti (r) said that if you see the Prophet (ṣall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in your dream, you will see him in reality before you leave dunya! ”

Seeing Sayida Fatima-az-Zahra and Shaykh Abdul Qader Jilani (qaddasa-l-Lahu sirrah) in dreams show that you are under their spiritual protection and their heavenly guidance.

All these dreams show that you are on the right path and that you need to continue to be constant until they open more realities and secrets insh Allah.
Pray for us insh Allah.

And Allah knows best.

Shuyukh Testing People

Question:

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakaatuh,

When the shuyukh say things about people, how do we know if the shuyukh are just testing them and us or if they really mean what they say…eg, if the shuyukh say that this is a corrupt person and has a dirty heart…do we take it at face value, or look at it as a test for that person and ourselves and not hold a bad opinion or enmity towards that person?

I ask this in context of the incident Shaykh Hisham mentioned of Grandshaykh shouting Mawlana Shaykh Nazim in front of everybody and the other mureeds began thinking bad of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and took Grandshaykhs words at face value.

How do we avoid being like those mureeds, but also make sure that we are not disobeying the Shaykh by interpreting the situation wrongly?

May Allah Reward You,
Jazakallah

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,

A murid has to realize when a person is trying to harm the Shaykh and dissociate from such a person forthwith. A truthful murid also needs to detect what the Shaykh considers a real fitna and unacceptable interference so that they do not contribute in fueling such a fire
against the Shaykh.

If in doubt then abstain from judgement and reflect more; however, the murid has to be on the same page with Shaykh because haqq is haqq and batil is batil. A widespread example of batil is those who misrepresent the Shaykh around the world, as described in some of the recent suhbas of Mawlana Shaykh Hisham.

When, however, Shaykh makes a rebuke involving a senior caliph similar to the incident mentioned in your question, the matter is different and those who witness it should not interfere whether outwardly or with their hearts. We keep our irrelevant interpretations to ourselves and focus on our own ego-infestation issues. As Mawlana said when lions roar
dogs keep quiet.

Our hearts are under scrutiny in any case, whether in the first scenario or the latter, and Allah knows best.

What to do with statues

Question:

We were given as gifts some Indian statues. One was made from stone which we have put outside in the shed, one is made from sandal wood and one is a head of Buddha made from wood. We were thinking of giving it to Hindus. Is it permissible or should we throw them?
Thanks

Answer:

From an incident occurred between the Prophet (s) and Umar (ra) we
conclude that it is permissible to give haram gifts to a polytheist.

Dream: Quran and prayer

Dream:

I had a dream last night where I am with my sister who is very religious mashallah and I go to her with the Quran in my hand (it appeared to be in English titles but Arabic texts) and I asked her which side of the Quran was the front. We opened it together and when I saw Surat al Fatiha I pointed to it and smiled. Before I asked I feel like I remember being naked or undressing while holding the Quran.. after I left her I went into kitchen and I started praying and my sisters son was in front of me smiling so I smiled back at him while still praying.

This dream confuses me for I’m not sure if it’s a good dream with the Quran and prayers or a bad dream with the undressing and smiling while praying…

Interpretation:

Audhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim
Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm:

It shows that you will be guided to understand the inner meanings of the Holy Qur’an. Being naked means that there is a deficiency which needs improvement and that you will have to overcome it before receiving those secrets.

And Allah knows best.
