Wudu

Question:

as salam shiekh,

I would like to ask u is it essential to wash both the front and the back part during every wudu …with water every time wudu is fard on us? I follow the ahnaf .

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Allah’s Messenger (s) said: “The Salaat (prayer) of a person who does Hadath (passes urine, stool or wind) is not accepted until he performs (repeats) the Wudhu (ablution).” [Bukhari]

“O you who believe! When you intend to offer prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, lightly rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of Janaba, purify yourselves (bathe your whole body).” [Surah al-Maidah: Ayat 6]

Grave Headstone

Question:

Asalaamualikum,

I hope all the team at eshaykh is well and Allah makes the continuation of your good work easier.

My question is concerned with Muslim headstones. My father passed away a couple of years ago and we are still to arrange a headstone to be placed on the grave. Currently there is a simple wooden plaque identifying the grave.

Is there permission and permissibility for headstones and if there is what is the Sunnah approach – what should the headstone include or not include?

We live in the UK and although the cemetery is sectioned with two large Muslim Areas – there are ‘non-Muslim’ areas and people often come and walk there dogs / allow there dogs to roam in the area.

JzakAllah khair

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

There is no harm in placing of Headstone which may include besides the name the dates of birth and death.

Jafari Fiqh

Question:

I am curious about the Naqshbandi position on Jafari fiqh and those who practice it?

Answer:

If you study Ja’fari fiqh, you will find 90% of it very similar to Sunni positions. It is very interesting and may come as a surprise to you that there is more in common between Ja’fari and Hanafi fiqhs than between Hanafi and other madhhabs.

Is earrings for men haram?

Question:

As Salamu Alaykum,

There are some traditional depictions of muslim men using earrings, in the Middle Ages, for example. The old dervish Baba Aziz in the movie of the same name is shown using a silver earring. Shaykh Abdul Rasheed Matthews also uses one. Are earrings allowed for men in Islam? Is this considered imitation of women? Are earrings necessarily feminine? Is it allowed when it is used on only one ear (e.g. on the left ear only)?

Thank you in advance. May Allah reward you for your great work and bless Shaykh Hisham and all staff.

Wa Salaam

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Earrings are considered a kind of adornment for women. Imitating women is considered unlawful in Islam.

Father passed away

Question:

assalaam alaikum,

My father passed away on the 8th of May, and I am writing to you regarding the issue of `idda, the morning period for widows, specifically regarding my mother. Kindly advise us as to what is the ruling. She is over 70 years of age, and even before my father died she didn’t go out unnecessarily. She only used to go out to my father’s sisters houses and to his brothers house and to her children’s houses. Once in a while she used go to the bank for important work. please advise. Thank you.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Your mom may not marry again until 4 months and 10 days have passed. She must remain at home throughout this period. Only in the case of dire necessity she is allowed to leave the house during the day.

Being pressured to grow beard

Question:

Assalamualaikum,

Firstly, my humblest salaam to Maulana Sheikh Nazim & Sheikh Hisham may Allah SWT blessing shower them.I need advice. I am a practicing Muslim, 33 years of age. Have a beard, trying to keep this in the sunnat way. Its no longer than a fist. Everyone telling me to cut it, even my own mother. Say no have a beard as long as me, that I wont get married if its that long. My heart telling me to keep it. I am looking to get married but none of the girls I have met like my beard..they say I have a good personality but don’t like my beard..At first I get angry but then get depressed..I love my beard. I have not kept it for show, kept it for the love of our beloved Prophet PBUH..Have done Bayt directly with MSN.. I am at a loss and feel alone..Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Make the beard short now. 90 % of Mawlana’s mureeds have no beards and even if they have it, it is close-trimmed. As long as the “sign” of the beard is there, in order to marry or find a job, it is OK to trim it.

Bayah & Participation in other Sufi Orders

Question:

If you do bayah with shaykh nazim can you be part of the mevlevi, shadhili and qadri tariqts and do their dhkir as well. for example the hadra and perform the sema?

Answer:

Yes you can, as tabarruk, blessing, but your baya` is to the Naqshbandi silsila of Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani (q).

I used to accompany Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani (q) to the Ushaqi dhikr in Turkey and Shadili dhikr in Syria; that does not change the baya`, but rather takes the barakah of other tariqahs.  Even in the Naqshbandi dhikr, we do the first part of the Khatm up to Ihda, then we do the remainder as tabarruk from other tariqahs, which is an addition to the Khatm Khawajagan added by Grandshaykh (q).

The Khatm Khawajagan that we do now is not even required for us, as it is only for those who attend the Greater Khatm. If the number of people are less than seven, they do the Lesser Khatm which most are doing today, and if more, they should do the Greater Khatm on stones, as mentioned in the Naqshbandi Sufi Way. If you do the first part without doing the second, you have completed the Naqshbandi dhikr.

We are mentioning this simply to explain that it is permissible to go to dhikr of other tariqahs.
