Supplication and the Divine Will

Question:

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatuLlah wa barakatuhu,

Dearest and respected Shaykh, please help me achieve some understanding on the following: according to the Quran, we know that no benefit or harm can befall us unless it is ordained by Allah. I know that we have been given the choice to choose our actions, etc., and that we have a certain degree of freedom, but in the end, the outcome of our efforts is given by Allah. That being said, I sometimes feel there is no point in asking Allah for specific things (for example, Oh Allah, please let me get a job or wife, etc) because what Allah has written shall come to pass regardless of whether we ask or not. So, isn’t the best prayer simply to pray that His Will come to pass and to praise Him because He knows what is best? I feel that personal prayer (asking for specific things) bolsters the ego and the will of the self instead of submitting to the Higher Will. Is this true ? Please shed some light on this – is there really any point in praying for specific things if every event has an predetermined time and place?

Thank you so much, may Allah shower you with His blessings and mercy and give you higher stations in His presence. Ameen.

Answer:

`Alaykum as-salam

Allah loves to be asked always and at all times for everything small and great even, as He said to sayyidina Musa upon him peace, “for the yeast in your bread and even new laces for your shoes.” That is the way of Prophets and our most Holy Prophet (s) as well, although everything was created for him, as he is the Paragon of servanthood.

To ask to look how the timeless Divine Decree relates to our du`a in time is to step out of our depth. As far as we know Allah wants to grant us the reward of servanthood which is manifested among other acts by the expression of our neediness, nay our extreme poverty to Him and dependence on him (faqr). That is the greatest laud and praise because it is the Prophetic pattern which He commanded us to follow.

Dream: Prophets are alive

Dream:

I am sending ma greetings in Islam of peace and blessings to my Shaykhs Sultanul Awliya Shaykh Nadim (Q.S) and his qudub Shaykh Hisham (q.s) and their followers.

In this dream the Messenger of Allah Nebi Suleyman handed me a letter in a closed envelope and told me to hand it or give it to Shaykh Hisham (q.s) and when I handed it to Shaykh Hisham (q.s) in the same dream, he immediately took it from me but without openining it told me and the people (did not see people but felt so) that this an indication of what he was saying before that prophets are alive. I was a firm believer of prophets being alive even before the dream so I was puzzled to whom the confirmation was for. Is there something that I should watch for? Thanks.

Interpretation:

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim
Allahuma salli ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa ala Ahlihi wa Sahbihi Ajma’in

To see Nabi Sulayman (as) in a dream means his troubles will vanish and/or he will receive from Allah, a great level.

In your case, this was Prophet Sulayman (as) was a keeper of your trust because his name “Sulayman” which is comprised of two names; Saleem-secure, and Amana-trust. With orders from the Prophet (s), he (as) gave Shaykh Hisham your trust because you are a spiritual inheritor of Prophet Sulayman (as) and it, your trust, is now secure with Shaykh Hisham, who is authorized to hold it by Mawlana Shaykh Nazim.Which indicates that you are increasing in your spiritual ascension. And affirming belief that prophets are alive means they are alive in your heart.

Zakat money loan for building mosque

Question:

Can you please let us know, if money from Zakat can be loaned for Masjid construction? Loan does not mean permanent donation, loan here means for a specific time period only. Then the money will be returned back to the Zakat handling person.

Answer:

It is not lawful to give or take the amount of Zakat or sadaqah on loan neither for the mosque nor for other jobs but it is wajib (obligation) on the wakils of zakat (Zakat handling persons) that they should spend it on their masraf (poor and needy).
