Umrah/Hajj

Question:

Salaam to all,
I am a 23 year unmarried female. My heart is longing to go Medina/Makkah very soon InshaAllah. 3 Issues – 1) I have a student loan that depends on my income. Can I still carry out Umrah or Hajj. Or do I wait til fully paid back. I have enough money to go on Hajj/Umrah saved. 2) I have always said to myself I would want to do Hajj after I have made up for all my missed prayers and fasting. Is that compulsory, or can I make up for them on my return inshaAllah. 3) I am a weak individual, a bad Muslim – I miss my prayer, become so weak. Should I wait til I become a stronger practising Muslim and then do Hajj and for now carry out Umrah? Forgive me and Please advise. Your time and effort is very highly appreciated.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

1) Hajj is from the 5 obligations of faith so it has greater weight. If you have enough for Hajj/`Umrah already and can also pay up your loan, then you may seek permission from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim to perform either Hajj or `Umrah.

2) It is preferred that you do them prior to Hajj. However you can still make up your prayers during the free times you have in the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah.

3) You may go for `Umrah first if you are not ready for the rigours of Hajj. Usually you would be better prepared – mentally, physically and spiritually – after experiencing `Umrah first hand.

Parents

Question:

assalamoalaikum I just want to ask you a very simple question. It is said disobedience to parents brings punishment twice, once in this world and in the hereafter. If somebody does something against his parents wishes or hurts them but is very very sorry and then his relationship with them becomes good..will he still be punished for it ?

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Just repent, seek forgiveness and rebuild the relationship. Do not worry, once all parties harbour no further misgivings and move on, Insha-Allah you have nothing to fear. Treasure it.

Listening vs reading quran

Question:

Asalam alaykoum Mawlana,
I want to thank you for this website, once I came across this site, my knowledge expanded.

1: Do we get the same ajr to listening to Quran as reading it. I tend to pay attention / learning by heart when I listen to Sheikh Mishary’s recitations.
2: I woke up with pimples over my face/ rash, I went to the doc and I had meds, and it didn’t go away regardless of the fact that I actually improved my diet. Can you please make dua for it to heal by Allah’s will because it is really affecting my self esteem.

3: I have few friends for which I do not trust, I no longer want to keep their friendship. Can you please make dua for Allah (swt) to keep bad friends away from me and keep good ones close to me.
Jazakallahu kairan

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

1) If you intend that Allah rewards you the same as the reciter, Insha-Allah, He shall grant you that. Of course the one reciting gains more. Alhamdulillah, Allah has given you the Himmah to learn the Qur’an by heart. Keep on with it and may He make it easy for you. Get your recitation/memorization checked by a qualified Hafiz of Qur’an.

2) Refer to this post: How to Get Rid of Spots on Face

3) Insha-Allah, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham will make du`a for you. Keep to the true and pious ones, and you shall see a change in yourself for the better.

Situations that give rise to Suspicion

Question:

Assalamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullah,

Sheikh Gibril,

I hope you and your family are with ‘aafiya.

In Kitab al-Arba’een of Imam al-Ghazali, he mentions a hadith in the section on fulfilling the rights of Muslims which I couldn’t ascertain its origin. It is ‘Guard (ittaqoo) the places of suspicion (mawaadhi’ at-tuhm).’

Wassalaam,

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,

Allah bless you and yours always.

Mulla `Ali al-Qari said in al-Asrar al-Marfu`a under the entry “Ittaqu mawaqi` al-tuham“:

<<‘Steer clear of situations that give rise to accusations.’ This is the meaning of `Umar’s (Allah be well-pleased with him and make him pleased) statement, ‘Whoever walks suspicious paths will be under suspicion.’ Al-Khara’iti narrated it halted at `Umar in Makarim al-Akhlaq in the wording ‘Whoever puts himself in a suspicious spot, let him never blame any that think ill of him.’>>

The latter report is narrated from the Companion Budayl b. Warqa’ from our liegelord `Umar by al-Khara’iti as stated by Hafiz al-Silafi in al-Muntaqa min Makarim al-Akhlaq lil-Khara’iti (p. 105 §236).

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (Allah sanctify his secret) always avoided drinking from a bottle of water inside the car that picked him up at night after tarawih in London—although parched—lest it give rise to ill thinking.

Zakat to cancer patient

Question:

Asslamo alaikum wr wb ,

I want to know what Islam says about to whom zakat should be delivered.
and is zakat valid to a cancer patient for his treatment in chemotherapy etc ?

kindly , I need prayers from Sheikh Hisham and Hajjah Naziah for me and my family .

may Allah give our Mawlana family endless blessings and health and happiness and beautiful life here and hereafter to all eshaykh members.

barakallah fekum.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

{Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to Truth); for those in bondage and in debt; in the cause of Allah; and for the wayfarer: (thus is it) ordained by Allah and Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.} Surat at-Tawba 9:60

Hence, Zakat can be disbursed to 8 categories of beneficiaries:

1. The poor – Fuqara’
2. Needy – Al-Masakin
3. Those employed to collect the Zakat – `Amileen `alayha
4. Those whose hearts are to be won – Mu’allafatu Qulubihim
5. Those enslaved, to free the captives – Ar-Riqaab
6. Those in debt – Al Ghaarimeen
7. Those who work for the cause of God – Fi sabilillah
8. Wayfarer – Ibn as-Sabeel

It does not say it is permissible for those suffering illnesses. If he/she also comes under the category of, e.g. Fuqara or Masakin, the Imam may allow Zakat to be given to that one. You may, otherwise, offer Sadaqa (charity) or Hadiyah (gift) to assist them through their medication period.

Taweez (continued)

Question:

Assalamu alaykum

My apologies for continuing the question but please advise the permissibility of entering the toilet whilst wearing a taweez containing Quranic verses.

Thank you.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

The taweez you are wearing is already concealed. So there is no problem with it. You may remove it if you like. However, it is preferred that you take it off when you shower.

Salam I belong to shafi madhab please could you provide me the ruling regarding wearing socks while praying for ladies according to shafi madhab? Thank you for your time.

In Shafi`i Madhhab, women must cover their feet, as they are considered the parts that should be covered. So they should also cover them during the prayer.

Dream: Imam Mahdi

Dream:

Salam,
I had a dream the world is coming to an end like qiyamah people are just running no one cares. But I know I must get together with a small group of mureeds (Naqshbandi), but I am also hiding. Then I am in a room alone. Suddenly there’s a knock at the door. I open it i see 1 man I don’t really remember what he looked like, but he was striking so much and face full of noor. He stared at me and then smiled and said, I am Madhi,You are with us don’t worry. I don’t remember the rest of the dream. Similarly I have seen Isa Alay salam many times, Hazrat Bayazzid Bustami, Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani and shaykh Nazim appear in my dream. Could you please tell me what these dreams mean. There are also many other things which I cannot say here.
Salam

Interpretation:

udhu billah mina ‘sh-shaytani ‘r-rajeem,

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem,

wa `alaykum salam,

Alhamdulillah not everything needs to be said, as awliya know what they are doing for their followers.  Seeing Mahdi (a.s.) and `Isa (a.s.) in the dream is a good tiding that you will be present in their time, and they are guiding and protecting you to reach to them.  Seeing Sultans of Saints in your dream shows your beloved position to them, coming from your relation to the Prophet (s).  And Allah knows best.
