Importance of imam

Question:

Assalam u alayekum Syyedi Sheikh Hisham!
There is a hadith in Tabrani, narrated from Amir Muawiya RaziAllah Anhu that whoever died without (the ma’rifat of) any Imam, he died on kufr.
What is the meaning of this hadith?
If we take the word “Imam” as the person who implements Islamic Law, as well as he is a wali then we don’t find more than 6, 7 names in history who come up to this criterion, including Four right caliphs, Syedna Imam Hassan, Amir Muawiya, Umar Bin Abdul Aziz .
So, please explain the meaning of this hadith.

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,
The Five Pillars of Islam are extremely clear. They are established in the Qur’an and sahih hadith. “Knowing an imam” is not among them. However, Allah Most High commanded to {Obey Allah and obey the Prophet and those in authority among you} in general terms and that is what is incumbent upon Muslims, whether those in political authority are righteous or not.

Wasee (the appointed one)

Question:

Assalam u alayekum Syedi Sheikh Hisham!
I was reading the munajat of Syedna Imam Zain Ul Abideen alaye hi salam in which he mentioned a phrase of “Wasiyye Muhammad Salla’l la ho alaye hi wasallam” in munajat e mudhtareen. I am confused after reading this because we ahl-as-sunnat believe that Prophet Salla’l la ho alaye he wasallam didn’t nominate anyone as caliph. On the other hand Syedna Imam Zain Ul Abideen is also very respectable personality to us.
So, please explain why is this apparent contradiction.
Shukran ya syyedi.

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,
The massive majority of Muslims and the consensus of Ahl as-Sunnah agree that there was no Prophetic wasiyya (testament) of caliphate to anyone, however, there are countless allusions and signs given by the Holy Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) pointing to Abu Bakr and `Umar, Allah be well-pleased with them, which is where the agreement of the Companions and the succeeding generations – including Zayn al-`Abidin – formed. Therefore, you should not be confused but rather follow the advice of the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) as stated in the forty Hadiths collected by Imam al-Nawawi: “Leave what causes you doubt and stick to what does not cause you any doubt.” (Tirmidhi, Nasa’i)

Troubles and Trials after Making Dhikr

Question:

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, Dear Sheikh Gibril!
How are you? I would like to ask you again a question that I asked you and the other shuyukh while we were in the car in Jakarta. Why is it that serious problems or trials occur when I say the zikr? I did make a scientific observation of stopping the zikr for some time and everything was smooth sailing. When I returned to it, again new troubles occur. And most of these problems are really serious, Sheikh. I consulted to the French mureed who first inducted me to Our Order, and he said even his sheikh in Paris, Sheikh Abdulhafez said that Naqshbandi is full of “violent” trials. Please give me your thoughts on this, Sheikh, I ask respectfully and humbly. I can’t remain Naqshbandi if I don’t do my zikr, so please elucidate me on this issue.
Shukran and Jazakallah khayran,

Keep us in your dua,

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,
May Allah Most High guide you and us to what is right. A man complained to Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) of his brother’s stomach trouble so the Prophet prescribed honey for him. The man came back some time later saying it was getting worse. The Prophet prescribed honey for him again. The man came back another time saying the honey was making his brother’s stomach worse. The Prophet said: “Keep taking honey. Your brother’s stomach lies and Allah speaks truth.” He kept to it and eventually got better (Bukhari and Muslim). This is because Allah Most High said that honey contains healing for people. Allah Most High also said to make dhikr assiduously, and that truly dhikr brings tranquility to hearts. So, similarly we say to you keep making dhikr until troubles are replaced with tranquility of heart; your experience lies and Allah
speaks truth.

And before I start my lecture he announced, “Sayedna Jabreel please join us for brother [private name] lecture. I said to myself “why would Sayedna Jabreel come to attend my lecture”. When i looked up I saw Sayedna Jabreel coming. What does it mean?

Zoroaster was Prophet?

Question:

Salam wa aleykum

My family before being Shiite was Zoroastrian, today, I am Sunni, but so far raises something I doubt. Zoroaster was or was not a Prophet of Islam? I know there are references that he was, according to the Ayatollahs he was a prophet, but to us Sunnis? Much of what I read about him is much like the story of many prophets. I would therefore like to know more about.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Even with the Qur’anic designation Majus, Zoroastrian communities have for the most part been accorded the legal status of “People of the Book.” This is not, apparently, equivalent to recognizing Zoroaster as a prophet; the religion of the Majus is understood to have preceded him.

In his Tarikh ur-rusul wal-muluk, the great historian at-Tabari accomplished a very remarkable synthesis between the stories of the prophets of Islam and the accounts of the Persian kings. In at least two separate instances, at-Tabari refuses to recognize Zoroaster as a prophet; however, in both instances he is recognized as a transmitter of the teachings of a prophet to the Persian court. Yet even here, with Persia dependent upon the line of prophets recognized by Islam, the special genius of Persian civilization is never in doubt, namely its royal glory.

Royalty, as well as the knighthood under its command, depends upon spiritual guidance to serve in accordance with justice. Nevertheless, royal power has its distinct customs, and the Persian emphasis on the element of fire may in some measure be understood in this context; on the other hand, water – with its manifest dominance over fire – is the foremost element in the religion of Islam. Given such distinctions, it should not be overlooked that Islam was founded upon an ideal at the source of both spiritual authority and royal power, an ideal followed at least until the end of the age of the Rightly-guided Caliphs.

With the blossoming of Islamic civilization, cermonial deriving from the Persian court became widespread and the Persian penchant for chivalry was renewed. It is certainly suggestive that the same letters in Arabic may spell either “Persia” or “horseman.” Indeed, the importance of chivalry in Persian culture probably contributed to Shi`ism’s popularity, given the Shi`ite focus on the Imam `Ali, a paragon of Islamic chivalry (may Allah ennoble his face). Further afield, there is a marked Persian presence in the Grail legends of Western chivalry, as was first elaborated upon by the Zoroastrian scholar Jehangir Coyagee. It is perhaps worth noting here that the Norsemen of Europe, whose warrior traditions also flowed into the Age of Chivalry, were likewise called Majus by the Muslims.

Comparable to the regard for Persia’s royal past is the Islamic incorporation of the philosophy of Persia’s ancient priest-kings. The Ishraqi school sought to synthesize this legacy with that of the Classical philosophers in light of the teachings of Sufism. A master of this school related a dream in which he asked Aristotle about the real masters of wisdom; Aristotle answered that “the Sufis Bistami and Tustari are the real philosophers.”

According to the commentator `Abdur-Razzaq al-Kashani, the first Ishraqis were the followers of the Prophet Seth. This is a significant designation, since with the Prophet Seth – peace be upon him –  the traditions of Sufism and chivalry were not yet distinct. The real significance of this term, then, is to identify a light – since Ishraq is literally a “rising sun” – at once spiritual and royal that is a source of knowledge. It is therefore not without interest to find among the ranks of sainthood a group known as the Rijal ul-ishraqiyyun, whose function relates especially to the end of time.

Dream: The pigeon

Dream:

Asalamu’lekum
I was walking in a downtown area with tall buildings around… I also couldn’t see anybody around me….so while walking this flying bird, a pigeon, lands on my right shoulder and I was suprised but just kept on walking. So it starting speaking to me and says “do you know what Allah(SWT) said about the 7th or 17 (I think it was the 7th century ALLAHUA’LAM) century europeans then it spoke in Arabic( I don’t speak Arabic) and translated it in English….so it flew away and I kept on walking. Then it came back and lands again on my right shoulder and speaks in Arabic and again translates it to English. I haven’t memorized the Quran yet but inshallah I will. jazakullakhair

Interpretation:

wa `alaykum salam!

audhu billah mina ‘sh-shaytani ‘r-rajeem,

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem,

Allahumma salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa `ala alihi wa sahibi wa sallam!

Madad ya Sayyidi! I am asking your holy support for this matter, and every matter in my life.  I can’t help or advise anyone, except with your help!

Always we are between two possibilities – either we are with our Lord, or we are with our egos, and his helper, Shaytan.  We must, all of us, be alert to know which is which.  Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, Allah ta`ala grants him endlessly, and grants us from his knowledge and his love always, said that in these difficult times, there is a huge power loaded onto a very simple dhikr. Say, “Rabbun’Allah!  husbun’Allah!” at least 100 times a day, and more if you like.  Allah ta`ala keeps you and me and all of us safe, here and hereafter.

He knows best.

Concealing the truth from children

Question:

Assalamu alaikum,

One of my children is a fussy eater so I put vegetables in his food without him knowing. I do this out of concern, for there were serious health problems in the past. Now my problem is that the child keeps questioning me if I have added anything he dislikes in the food. Most of the time I beat around the bush, sometimes even resorting to a lie justifying that I’m the mum and my child’s health is my responsibility. My child is under 15 yrs of age and has recently become baligh but is not mature enough to leave his matters to himself. Respected shaykh my question is am I sinning by this action or by my occasional lie? I have heard that a person can’t be a liar and a Muslim at the same time.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

It is not necessary to lie, just frank explanation and creativity is needed. Give encouragement to your child with kind advise about the goodness of eating vegetables and what benefits it brings to him. You may incorporate them into different dishes like soups and desserts. Finely chopped vegetables make them easy to eat. Children will need to be trained to adapt their tastes to vegetables, so make them tasty and flavourful. Keep serving them various vegetables regularly so that their eyes will get used to it and eventually pick up the habit of eating it. There are many cookbooks that help train children improve their diet with vegetables and fruit.

When you prepare the food, make sure you have Wudu and recite Salawat and du`a over them so that they will provide a spiritual nourishment for your child that will purify and change him.

Dream: Dream of becoming Wali Allah

Dream:

Assalamwaaliakumwrwb

I got two dream saying that I am a waliallah. I will post my secound dream right after this, so please can you interpret my both dreams
First dream, I was sitting in a mosque asking a dua to Allah (s.w.t) that to make my grandfather alive as he was dead 10 years ago. Then when I went out of the mosque in my dream that night I went out with my parents to a hotel and when my parent were sitting inside the hotel I came out of the hotel and saw my grandfather wearing a pleasant dress. He was smiling at me, then I talked to him, he was really happy and I started crying with happiness. I went to mother by running saying loudly continuously that I am going to become a wali allah very soon and she believed me by smiling as my dua got accepted

Interpretation:

wa `alaykum salam!

audhu billah mina ‘sh-shaytani ‘r-rajeem,

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem,

Allahumma salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammad alihi wa sahbihi wa sallam. Again and again, I am asking help and support from my Shaykh – Allah ta`ala raise him higher and higher.  He knows well and best, and I don’t know anything.   First of all, in Holy Qur’an, in Surat Yusuf, Yusuf (a.s.) has a dream in which he is shown signs that he will be raised to a high station.  He tells the dream to his father, Ya`qub (a.s.) who cautions him not to say such things to his brothers, because they will get jealous.  Therefore, if one sees a dream in which one sees himself in a good situation, he should keep it to himself.  “My awliya are under My domes”, says Allah ta`ala, “no one knows them except Me!”  It is a secret between Allah ta`ala and His wali. He may grant as He likes.  Sayyidina Ali, karama’Llahu wajha, said, “It is impossible to find a rank better or higher than SERVANT!”  Therefore, all of us must look first to our servanthood, and all its conditions.  Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, a`aala Allah ta`ala darajatihi da’ima, said, “Good works are corrupted by showing off.”  Our servanthood is spoiled when we make people know about it.  You and I must think about this point, insha-Allah.

And Allah ta`ala knows best.
